Bored and thinking of a new bike

Keep enjoying your 1190, change bikes when she starts giving your problems, by then the Husky Norden 901 will be out. Lighter, lower fuel tanks, like the KTM 790, and will keep the fun factor, save the pennies.

Was thinking more along the lines of this:

KTM sells a trail repair kit for this:

I guess they didn't learn from Charlie and Ewan. Bikes that size are NOT dirtbikes. Just because Chris Birch does it, doesn't mean everyone can.

Its not the load, its a poor design by KTM. Plenty of stuff on ADVrider and even dealers with broken frames, some don't even recommend a small plastic topbox for regular use. In Charlie/Ewans case it was overloaded, the reduced it big time for Long way down. The guy in the video was below KTM's recommended load. You don't see Africa Twin frames breaking.

Not in the same budget or class..but going to guess V stroms dont have those kinds of catastrophic failures either

Africa Twin you say:

@Clutt-225 I think you might have one of the best all around bikes on the market today. I know it’s the winter so it can be a little boring but you might regret making a change.

Btw a lot of the super dukes have been sale forever. They don’t sell at the big prices people ask for them. Keep an eye out you might pick one up for a fair price. You’ll see BMW S1000R’s sometimes between 10-11,000. That’s the naked I’d buy today.

You mention mountain biking I think in here....go rip around Joyride150 in Markham to kill the boredom. Will cost you a lot less.

Different frame style. KTM uses a tubular trellis frame, lots of thin walled steel arranged to take a lot of loading and torque stress -- not so good when it comes to impact. It's not a manufacturing flaw, it's a design flaw -- the impact of handling in shipments to dealers has cracked frames. Vstroms have large diameter aluminum box frames -- they are much better suited for rough going, I have never seen a broken Vstrom frame (they may exist).

That's not the subframe, its the rack accessory, it also comes with a low carry capacity rating Honda makes note of.
Ya I know it's plastic and the top box has a backrest incorporated into it for a passenger.
 Do they also tell customers to not let your passenger lean back too hard?

Honda sold a luggage rack for the trunk of the goldwing but rated it's capacity at something like 2 lbs.Stupid engineering.

Yikes -- what if fat momma was putting a few kgs of force on the grips? That could end up a bloody mess.

First thing I ever noticed about the Africa Twin was that it has tube tyres and no rim locks.
:cautious: don't go trying to ride that on low pressure to improve traction or you will most certainly shear off a valve stem when the bike is under heavy acceleration or braking!

Keep the 1190 for all the reasons you bought it in the first place and buy a dirt bike,
everything else you listed is just another machine that rides on pavement, is like apples to apples. For a rider as yourself a dirt bike would be a new bike experience.

:D looks like another nice day for riding!
This. Buy good used dirtbike now for cheap and leave in my garage. Don't tell wife, just say you're borrowing one of mine. Ride into trails from my driveway. Easy peasy solution.

Couple of suggestions:
First, send wife to full time work asap.
if possible...
Second, trade your toy car and garage princess bike for a light weight street legal dirt bike. ( WR450,EXC500, CRF450, etc) Cheap insurance...
Third, keep the 1190...best all purpose motorcycle to date.
Problem solved
Thank me later

I’m liking all the dirt bike suggestions.
Can’t sell the car, it’s a keeper.
I don’t have a garage princess bike anymore.
Definitely not going to send wife back to work. You see from my experience if your wife works then you end up sharing the household chores. As is I go to work and the house and kids are all her, and that my friends is a luxury I have grown quite used too.
Once I’m done work it’s my time to go to the gym, ride mountain bikes, play with cars and motorcycle. I don’t have time to clean the house or do laundry.
Not being sexist but that’s her gig and I’m ok with it. I’d rather go to work.

I’ve watched a crap pile of review videos and I’m leaning towards keeping the 1190 and continue to enjoy it. I can steal the MT09 anytime I want.
My buddies wife works full time and he never has time to ride ?

Keep the 1190 and use the $$ you would spend on a second bike and a second insurance bill and spend it on some epic rides/trips and mile that 1190 out! The thrill of a new bike can't compare to the memories of a great trip.
