Daily sports car?

They're already onto it. Some ins companies have stopped insuring cars in excess of 450hp.

Haha, we are going back to the days of 400 hp (wink wink, nudge nudge) cars.
My first 400hp car was a 70 Fury Sport GT with a 440 RB 3x2. Lucky I worked in a tire shop.

For the vast majority, affordability does affect their choice. While not cheap, a vette is in a whole different ballpark to the nsx (50 to 100 vs 200+). I'm still not convinced that the NSX would win me over even at even money, but at two to four times the money, my decision is very easy.

I'll say that most car guys are secret rednecks with toys. Listen to a lumpy 6.7L v8 cold start vs a turbo-whatever, and unless the turbo-whatever is hailing from an Italian marque or Aston Martin, the v8 just has "presence". Then throw reliability and ease of DIY/finding a shop to wrench on it and you can see why the Corvette is so damn popular.

To be fair, I want a c7 grand sport, big time.

That's ridiculous. Good job GM.

For comparison, GT350 starts at 75,600 and GT350R at 85,600.
I'm confident his numbers are USD.

I suspect we'll see approx. 69K CAD for 1LT, #SupraLOL

It looks like you are right 69,998 Canadian for 1LT. Not as shocking but still very well done by GM.

EDIT:
The new supra was always in trouble. Lots of money for not enough car. The FRS at less than half the money is a fun car. I am surprised they even bothered with a 330hp supra. Blow it, make it 500+ and they might sell a decent number (although they are under serious price pressure from the C8, so even that may not work that well in NA).

Here are USD price lists. All credit goes to 4U2ENV (link below). You can select your own VIN for 5000USD.

I'm interested to see this vette in the publics hands in mass numbers.

Willing to wager GM released it prematurely and without proper pre production testing.

Why? It seems like they have been driving around for a while now. Although they moved the engine, it is still just a conventional ICE setup so that avoids much of the expensive growing pains from trying to add a good hybrid system.

Dont get me wrong, I expect to see lots backwards into trees. Anytime you get high hp, rwd, testosterone and affordable to the masses that always happens.

Ohhhh,. Just a hunch from their last mid engine project along with it's relatively low sticker price. You have to wonder if it was properly developed. Something's gotta give.....

"its reputation suffered from criticisms over performance, reliability, and safety issues." Comparing a Vette to a Chevette. Priceless.

"As a cost-saving measure commonly employed at GM, the tires, brakes, and suspension components were carried over from other GM economy cars (like the X and T Platforms)"

Comparing a C8 Vette to a car made from the Chevette and Citation parts bins. Priceless.

jump to conclusions?

when it comes to mid and rear engine layouts, cockup's at GM is in their DNA, remember the Corvair?

other respected auto mags have no problem referencing the Fiero..... guess its not such a stretch after all.

"A new electrical architecture that’s causing bugs, a twisting subframe for the engine, and an unspecified conflict between engineering and design."

"And this is Chevy’s first mid-engine Corvette, too, so unless you think GM’s experience with the Fiero has much relevance, it’s starting from nearly scratch there, as well."

Why Can't GM Get Its C8 Corvette S*** Together?

"there is a lot of doubt on the reliability and "growing pain" front. What do I mean by this? Well it's simple. GM hasn't really made a mid-engine car before (we're looking at you Fiero) and that might mean disaster... At least initially."

Will there be first year niggles? Probably.

You'll see another rear engine Corvettes they toyed with in development in 73 at the Kentucky museum. GM has played with the idea and they've had ample time to think it through. Like I said I'm sure there will be some first year niggles but ragging on it already is pointless.

I've seen countless examples demonstrating to never buy the first year of a GM vehicle (or any other domestic manufacturer). And you saw it with the recent C7 track auto corvette overheating problems and lawsuit.

And I vastly prefer to say the same regardless of manufacturer. There always are improvements made to a vehicle as it gets produced, running changes as they are often called.... on the line at times and especially year to year. And as mentioned, the corvette is well known for that.

Carry on.

OK, but they\re gonna kick Honda's *** right out of the gate. The car will go faster, stop quicker, and be 1/3rd the price of an NSX -- and it will also get more chicks.

Corvette will also kill it in sales. One thing also to note, the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY is across the road from the factory and you have the free option of checking a box on the order list to pick up your new Vette inside the museum and have a tech introduce you to your new car and run you through the features before you drive it away. While I was there I noticed all the people getting their cars looked to be retirees picking up their retirement present to themselves. Maybe it was that way because it was a weekday but it's something to consider when you consider selling to your customer base. Like the HD sales tactics of sticking to what works and giving that image, GM knows their fanbase for the vette. Like HD taking gambles with models outside the box as they see sales decline, GM too is taking a gamble by this change. Good for them both though for trying.
