hard to believe I started mid may with 1k km and now at 14k and mechanic thinks new tires soon

Looking at Avon Storm 3d X-M based on an Australian reviewer who got very high mileage from his and these are full road tires, Price is right too.

120/70ZR17 (58W) STORM 3D X-M FRONT

You Pay - $135.95
and
160/60ZR17 (69W) AV66 STORM 3D X-M REAR

You Pay - $170.95

With the low weight of the CB500x I'd think they'd go a long way as designed for the larger bikes

I'd consider K60s or E07s ( which I run in Aus ) but no off pavement for the CB500x so I figure a tire designed for a Hyabusa will get long life on a light CB

My primary concern is long mileage.

If designed for heavier bikes . Will they warm up with low weight and work as designed ?

Had them on my Busa -- lasted well over 15K, they were a bit slippy.

you said no off pavement
but in case you change your mind

I had Avon TrailRiders on the FJ09
fantastic in the rain and nice on gravel
the name is kind of misleading
they are an 80/20 tire

I put 14,000 on them and replaced the rear as it had 2 plugs in it
front still had tons of life, rear had maybe 30% left and had not squared off too bad

price @ Pete's is the same as the Storm

I put on a set (GT rear) in April and now have about 8,500 km on them and they look like they'll last another 4,000 km or so, so this is a long wearing tire for me. Usually get 8,000 - 10,000 km max out of tires.

This is not a great tire in the wet and in the dry it certainly is way slipperier than the Metzeler Z6 and Bridgestone T30 or T30 EVO. On tight corners both the front and rear can slide a bit so doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence. On hard braking have actually had the front wheel lock up, which has never happened on other tires.

So overall, seems like good longevity but at the cost of lousy handling and compromised grip when braking, Won't be buying these again.

If you're looking for a long wearing tire for a long trip and you have ABS then the Avon might work for you.

This was exactly my experience. I ride a few bikes and have tried a variety of tires, so far the best mix of durability and performance is RoadPilot 4s GT for a heavy ST (used on my Busa and FJR), and Metzler Tourtech (Wee). The Avons were great if you goth them warmed up, but like ReSTored, I found myself dialing way back in cold or wet -- they just did not inspire confidence, in fact I'm gonna blame them for scaring me a couple of times in the rain as I too locked up unexpectedly.
