Yamaha Unveils New 2020 R1 and R1M Supersport Motorcycles

Maybe it's just me, but I liked the look of previous gen R1s better. This one just looks too robotic built from scraps, especially those headlights in the front.

The 09 ghost edition R1 with toce quad pipes is my absolute favorite:

Slide control system? Launch control system? Sound like a lot of hog-wash to me. Just give us more fuel range and more resistant armor that won't break in falls and stop with all these useless "features".

Yes I agree! I prefer most super sport bikes (in terms of looks) from 2008-2012.

Need to change your paradigm son!

Can't wait to see the reaction when electric bikes take off and we get some seriously crazy looking designs.

'new'

That will be a sad day lol
why? lol. we're all brain washed on what a motorcycle 'should' look like. Just stuck in our Paradigm.

I teach Kaizen at work and it never fails to get a few laughs when i hit this topic.

As a small example (which i use at work) think about music players;

Imagine if no one ever invented the discman or mp3 player, can you imagine everyone still rolling with walkmans and flipping over to side B or forward/rewind all day to find the right tracks? "A music player needs a tape and the tape needs a reel!"

I'm very excited to see the designs where we are not encumbered by the location of the motor.

I like new design. Not big on SS bikes, I think they can look great but not something I have an interest in riding. Looks sleek and modern, think they did a great job with this design. I do think the exhaust stands out and would like something smaller and out of the way. Love when that back wheel is open and it just looks like it is floating there.

I hear what your saying. But a walkman to an MP3 player was great technology that made music much more enjoyable on the go. I just don't see all the the new tech these new bikes have "necessary". Darn, I could care less if I ever even had ABS on a bike.
RIP Panasonic Shockwave ?

Interesting that you said necessary. Was skip next track necessary? How about 500 songs on one device?

Do you not feel that electricity will make bike ownership more enjoyable? At a minimum paying pennies to 'fill it up' sounds good to me. Again, outside of the tech the design options are really only limited by your imagination.

RIP Shockwave indeed.

Looks like I'm not getting notifications from GTAM app anymore ...

I don't hate futuristic looking bikes, I like them. But this one just looks ugly. I actually like the look of the newer electric bike concepts that manufacturers are spewing out. I wouldn't mind a Tron bike lol
