4-5 Days Lake Placid and Vermont area

Might be a second trip next week. Buddy is going back to Australia on the 21st and I'm off to Hawaii for a family get together on the 15th so only so much time left.

We would blitz to Prince Edward County then Wolf Island Ferry and down to Watertown and perhaps a bit further the first day.

5369 Snowbird Ct to Tupper Lake

Suggestions welcome.

I've done Lake Placid area and Whiteface and just tiptoed into Vermont. Roads were awful due to weather the winter prior

Booked a place ( prices are high and very little left )

Camp Balsam-Cranberry Lake - Cabins for Rent in Clifton, New York, United States

We will base out of there and ride the area.

weather is looking good too.

has anyone taken the Wolfe Island Ferry ....what about tie downs?

I took the Wolfe Island ferry two weeks ago. No tie downs required on either boat. The dock at the Canadian customs on the south side of the island is under water. You'll be riding through four inches or so with soft gravel underneath. It was no problem, though. Leave your Nexus card at home.

I’ve been that way a few times. I like to avoid the Lake Placid area as it’s tourist central and pricey. Old Forge way in to the Adirondacks is interesting, less pricey, less packed. Lake George area is lovely and if you head north from there you hit great roads along Lake Champlain. Fort Tyconderoga is a nice place to visit as is the Ausable Chasm further north.

Oh, and if you take the road that runs through Fort Drum you can see some very interesting sights. On one run back I had a Blackhawk a few hundred feet above me for quite a while. That was a memorable ride.

+1 on Old Forge. When I go to the Adirondacks I always make that my base point. It is touristy but it is a nice small touristy place. Some good restaurants and everything else you need as well as 2 mins and you are out of town enjoying nice twisty roads. Don't know the easter side of the Adirondacks well, I generally do not plan much when there I just head out and take whatever road strikes my fancy at the moment. Never been let down, so much nice riding there.

Thanks ...any improvement in the Vermont roads....they were awful after that big freeze a couple years back

Cops are thick around Lake Placid too...picking off New Yawkers hurrying to get back to the city
Saranac not so bad but rather be away. Happy with the location we have.
Hey JC wanna come down and show us some good roads ....40682

I’m actively avoiding the US this year. Will most likely head along the St Lawrence again to explore more of Quebec. It’s tempting though, it’s a great area.

Not yet. There’s a long list of “need to do's” building up, work is getting in the way though.

Staying over near at the White Horse Inn near Waitsfield earlier in the year, we didn't notice many police, down or back.

Lots of twisty roads through the mountains. I managed to get a ride in through Smuggler's Notch, and of course we visited the Ben and Jerry's factory.

We also did some day trips to New Hampshire.

Arrived okay - lovely day ...good diggs tho on the pricey side but to be expected this time of year. Two bedrooms is nice and a very complete kitchen. That will save some $$.

20k to grocery and fuel but we got here in lots of time and have enough for the stay - need to pick a ride tomorrow since looks to be the very best day.

You got a good day. Storms yesterday took some humidity out the air and there was a bit of a breeze down this way.

We rode Vermont in 2017 and the roads were fine. I don’t have the routes any more but one I do remember was Lincoln Gap Rd between Lincoln and Warren, VT. Worth the ride from NY for sure. Also, #17 from Bristol across to Waitsfield is excellent. There is a great BBQ joint at the top of the mountain (Local Folk Smokehouse) as well across from the gas station.

Big shout out to
Excellent sandwich and a real flat white Aussie style
Made up for a rather disappointing run on Hurricane Rd in Keene.

Not sure where to head tomorrow - the wilderness area is this huge hole and no alternative routes and don't want to go via Saranac and Lake Placid. :(

I'm thinking south

Take the 30 at Tupper Lake and head down to the 28N and follow the Hudson for a bit down to Lake George or head over to Tyconderoga to the fort.
