2018/2019 Raptors/NBA Thread

I heard Osgoode and St. Andrew are closed - too many people trying to get DT/University.

Will be interesting to see what happens this afternoon. Parade is delayed heavily, i'm thinking its going to wrap up right at rush hour.

Told Wellesley is shut down. 45 min walk from there to Wellington. Any chance a MC will get thru?

From the pics of crowds I've seen, I'd be staying at least a few blocks away from the parade route or any of the approved congregation areas (especially on a bike). I expected a decent turnout, but holy crap.

So far, only a few idiots in the crowd (four stabbed, one shot, streetcar wires knocked down by people climbing the poles). Statistically, given the number of people that are congregated, that seems quite low. Good job Toronto.

Just another good reason not to live in Toronto.

Why do people litter at these parades ? Looking at the aftermath on the news. Feel sorry for whoever has to clean that up.

People litter. Put 2 million in a relatively small area and you’ve now seen the results. It’s disgusting but when I see what people leave behind in the washroom at work nothing surprises. As for the cleanup I’m guessing some city workers can make a lot of overtime $

I'd say a lot could be contributed to people fleeing the scene unexpectedly.

Toronto is not the problem, people are the problem. Put the same 2 million people in Waterloo and you think things would be different?

Part of it comes down to logistics. You can only have so many garbage cans around and when people are in a mob, they can't access a can. Any cans that do exist quickly fill beyond capacity. If dumpsters were installed, they would have been instantly used as an elevated platform for spectating.

It may actually be cheaper for the city to just let people drop their junk and come through after to clean it up. At least the vast majority of the garbage will be in a concentrated area. I think New Orleans does this, garbage crew and street sweepers follow the parade and clean things up as it progresses. The street behind them is then clean and open for traffic.

^^ this is exactly how this parade was cleaned up.
I was at the EX at 9am and followed the parade down the city hall and stayed there til 4pm,then walked back to Coronation Park.
What an awesome day. Simply amazing. Marc Gasol was the parade MVP no doubt!

someone shooting a gun at the parade is just absolutely disappointing. Toronto is a great city, but when things like that happen, it's very demoralizing.

I get things like this are a 'big city problem', but there must be something that can be done that can curb this type of behaviour.

A cop friend said the lack of carding really made a significant difference in the number of hoodlums carrying guns. When carding existed they were concerned about getting caught, since then, how many times have you seen in the news that the victim returned fire? In my estimation, it's more than half the time when the victim was the intended target. Having a ton of armed idiots wandering around with no good way to stop them is never good.

Eliminate poverty.Fewer fatherless children raised in stable family environments.Weaker gang culture.
Anyone want to vote for a guaranteed income for all?

Are you meaning NDP .No thx.
No,i'm not.I'm just suggesting what will fix the problem.Canada is a wealthy country and any political party could fix poverty.
