No more demo rides?

FZ9 is 'punch you in the gut and take your lunch money' acceleration. :p Not what everyone is looking for perhaps. Seems there are other bikes that can give you a similar rush, but you need to wind them out a lot more.

I'd like to try mt10/s1kr/super duke as potential upgrades down the stretch.

Can't wait for a couple years down the road when we *hopefully* start seeing a few more of these on the used market :)

I'll be posting mine here first for sure! :D

Or were you talking about the big boy bikes?

I imagine it will be like trying to buy a wr250r on the used market today, they will be hard to find, and not cheap. People will be hard pressed to let them go

The FZ/MT09 has about as much power as I think you need on the street. The acceleration is pretty good, but nothing compared to a superbike. The S1000R is pretty close, and the KTM 1290 and FZ/MT10 are a bit further behind, somewhere between the middle of the FZ09 and Superbike. The main difference is that the superbikes just keep pulling for a long time, where the street bikes tend to start running out of steam after 150ish.

I haven't had a chance to try out a Street/Speed triple before, which is a shame. I'm going to check one out this weekend to see what it sounds like, along with a modded FZ09. Might end up just going with a new MT09, since I like the look and upgrades they did to the 17+ models. I'm not sure I can justify the additional cost of the MT10 (~5k).

If you're looking for a good Yamaha demo ride, the one Kelly's Cycle runs in Hamilton has a good route. I'm not sure of dates for this year though.

Hmm? I'm not sure that's exactly true, spec sheets say 0-60 FZ9 edges the R1. It should make more torque at lower RPM so it will likely be quicker off the jump. Gearing also probably comes into play here.

MT10, S1KR, 1290 are Super Nakeds, Superbikes in their own right.

I was talking about the FZ09 but when you put it that way the others would apply as well. The FZ09 sounds like a blast to ride. :) bike.

As I was saying, the street bikes will hold their own for the 0-60 because of gearing, but once you're in the territory of 150+ kmh, it's a different ballgame and it's about horsepower and not torque.

The MT10 is down substantially on horsepower from the R1 and doesn't have the electronics that make the R1 so good. The S1000R is a bit down on power compared to the RR, but it is pretty close. The KTM has some good power.

For street use, are you sure that the s1000r doesn't pulled more than the s1000rr? With the hearing and engine, it pulls a lot more at low rpm. Sure, once you hit 100+ the RR may be better but before that, the R is crazy.

1 ride per person per event? lol

Honda has corrected me on Facebook to say that they will not have any manufacturer demo events but individual dealerships will likely still allow test rides and have their own events.

Yes im sure that is likely to happen

I've demo'd bikes at individual dealerships before. Also remember, that Honda Canada are speaking in general for the most part for the whole country, not only Ontario. Other provinces maybe (are) much different in insurance.

I have never been turned down for a demo at the dealership. Put down a deposit and they will let you demo anything (as long as it is avail).

Bought a zx6 early 2000's. Gf was interested in same one. ONLY reason dealership would not let her demo it was that I had bought the last one they had. So no, even with deposit they didn't have one for her to try. Sent her to a dealership in London Ont. She liked also and bought.

Have your CC out and be serious about buying, not just joy riding. Best advice I can give.

lol I'm still not sure if I should post this because I don't want it to be so busy I get screwed for a ride, but here it is anyway. Policaro HD Oakville, demo day Sunday, May 13th https://www.policaroharleydavidson.ca/default.asp?page=xListEvents&id=367800
Hoping to try the Breakout 114, and probably a coupe others for comparison, but I really like the breakout and if I was going to get an HD anytime soon, that would probably be it...

Isn't that the new harley dealer? They supposed to open one in brampton as well soon

Not sure, HD's main website doesn't properly show the demo events though apparently because when I saw the nearest demo was PD13 in July, I went looking for rentals and found Policaro, whose own website listed their demo this month. So I'm going. I can't wait, I'm going to demo for sure, might rent, and I will be planning my next bike which I've already decided my next cruiser will definitely be HD. I will probably end up picking up an entry level metric sport in between, but next cruiser is definitely HD.

So I went for the HD demo today at Policaro in Oakville. Anybody else go? The had a big list of bikes, I took the Breakout 114 for a spin on ride #6. Holy **** does that bike feel like it has a ton of power. It picks up really fast with a flick of the throttle, apparently it's good to 130 in 3rd. One of the guys on my ride put a little too much wrist into his takeoff on a road king from a light, had a bit of fish tail action but he recovered. Alot of people expect big Harleys to be slow, but those baggers can still take off with their monster motors, They may not have the HP to hang with a supersport, but you don't need to, there's nowhere on this side of the world where you can get away with trying to find the end of a bike's powerband anyway. These machines have torque for days, and that is what you really want. There's now nothing that will keep me from getting an HD for my next ride, I found the Policaro store to be a great experience aswell and it will likely end up being where I purchase, I think it's closer than Clare's anyway.

They had a food truck on site, Rancho Relaxo, dealing out complimentary tacos, burritos and quesadillas. The store is big, well laid out, fully stocked and nicely designed. A ton of metal on the floor to drool over, as well as plenty of (fairly expensive)gear, apparel and collectibles. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

I must say, there is far too much misconception going around about HD. You guys need to get out there and try one. Get into one of these newer stores and check out the experience. The bikes have tech now, maybe too much tech. The Breakout I tried for example had an alien looking LED headlight that's probably all sorts of super bright at night, it also had a digital dash almost hidden in the handle bars it's so low profile, standard ABS and HD security including keyless start(keyfob proximity sort of thing), and ofcourse the newish Milwaukee Eight engines are pretty awesome. If you don't like noise, I found even the 114 to be pretty quiet for my taste as stock, and if you like it loud, there is no bike in the world with as much aftermarket support as HD. When I do, and I will, buy my HD I'll probably spec it with either screamin eagle or V&H pipes, as like I said it was fairly quiet. I think I need to go to the demo at clare's at the end of the month though to try out a couple others. On my way home I was thinking I should have tried the Fatboy and maybe a bagger, I've liked Fatboys since Terminator 2 came out, and baggers are definitely growing on me as an aging adult.

Plain and simple, final word, if you're a cruiser guy, go and ride a Harley. If you think some day you might want a Harley but you're gonna get a metric to tie you over, go and ride a Harley. If you're thinking you don't want a Harley because they're not fast enough for you, go and try a Harley. If you are looking at indians because you're a millennial that wants to be "different", go and try a Harley(Indians have HP, HDs have torque, HP is useless). I Like my Honda, love riding it really, but I can say without a doubt that I kind of regret not going directly to the Harley. If you think you can't afford a Harley... Go and try their financing, because nobody pays cash for big ticket items anymore, and you might as well have a frickin HARLEY!
