Richmond Hill has lost a great man.

Well-known member
Though he was not a rider, he did amazing things for hockey and curling in Richmond Hill. So much so that he has an arena named after him.
Ed Sackfield was 97, a life well lived. From Richmond Hill Mayor David West:
It is great sadness that we share the passing of Ed Sackfield.
Ed was a long standing figure in our community, loved and beloved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His passion for Richmond Hill and for hockey were not a secret. He served on the Richmond Hill Arena Association as a Board Member and as Administrator of the City's arenas. He coached many Richmond Hill Minor League hockey players, including Regional Councillor Joe DiPaola.

Ed Sackfield Arena was named in his honour in recognition of his dedication and commitment to community involvement as well as his great impact on the development of sports and particularly Minor Hockey in Richmond Hill.

In recognition of this commemoration, City of Richmond Hill flags will be lowered to half mast. During this difficult time, we send our deep and sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
Though he will be missed, he will not be forgotten.
