NREL Has Just Issued A Ban On All E-Bikes And E-Scooters

Interesting headline, the idea may spread but for right now, this release means little. Now, I expect, as it spreads, other implementations will be far worse. While NREL bans them from coming inside, they say they will provide nearby exterior locations for them. A less environmentally focused employer/building/condo would likely just ban them and provide no alternative location.

Now, I think banning all is a bad idea but it is a great idea to get rid of the cheap crap and force anything holding a large fire-starter to possess a valid certification (CSA, TUV, UL, etc).

It's slightly comforting to know at least one organization is seeing a problem with the market.

How could anything go wrong with an unlicensed and therefore untraceable, uninsured, minimally equipped device powered by the lowest price battery in a jurisdiction with virtually no enforcement regarding the aforementioned plus the potential of performance modifications with an untrained operator wearing an un-certified helmet. Sarcasm font.

While it is an organization, as implemented, it is essentially one (well-informed) employer implementing restrictions at a single workplace. It could be used as a model for others but it is relatively meaningless in terms of impact on its own.
