Brampton? Where to live or not to live

Raylawson and 10, by Cherrytree Public School. I used to teach skating at South Fletchers and was briefly a hostess at Cora's. Best part of Brampton was going to school in Caledon :p I must say, it pains me to drive by Mayfield SS now as I always knew it as being out with farms, and if you wanted food you went to Speers Orchard to buy a pie.

I agree that the urban sprawl is frightening .... but that is hardly Brampton only either. It is basically a law in Ontario that cities must keep growing ... :-( ..... If I ever leave Ontario, this will be the number one reason for sure.

Hazel was the first one that caught onto the Municipal Ponzy scheme. It works amazingly well until it doesn't. Mississauga is feeling the pressure as the first batch of crappy infrastructure is nearing the end of it's useful life and there isn't enough land to charge DC's on to keep the pyramid up. Brampton still has some land, Caledon and King are just starting to build the pyramid.

Caledon has been resisting the sprawl for a long time... and will continue to do so for as long as they can.

They need to build that GTA-West Highway to get things going ... it'd help out not just those regions but easy the bottle necks on the 401...

Haha, help out. Interesting. Raginduck has a good point, many are not happy about the change. Valleywood residents literally pelted bulldozers with tomatoes as they were building the 410 extension. Hilarious.

What a waste of perfectly good tomatoes!

Go a little further north.. and you'll find people that don't want the roads paved.. because it's hard on their horse' hoofs. Sounds ridiculous.. but those people have held up the paving of some roads for decades.
There's some very rich folks living in Caledon.. and they spend millions fighting against development.

To be clear, we are speaking of Caledon East, correct? As I know that the urban sprawl has begun in other parts, but CE is where the $$ is and also where the resistance is.

No... There's rich folks all over Caledon. Some of wealthiest are on the west side of Hwy 10... Weston, Thompson, Eaton, Etc..

And the province has been legally threatening them quite a few times I believe. Not sure where it stands right now, but the Mayfield phase is the result of I believe to shut the province up .... located nicely far away from "real" Caledon!!!

That highway is coming. The city master plan shows its location and where it will link up too.

The environmental assessment has been on hold for a few years. The developer's signs are up on various blocks of land north of Mayfield Road in Caledon, and there's a blank space where one supposes that the planned route goes.

An article about some of it...

My Dad was a developer... tried to develop areas in Caledon in the 80s.

Haha, Marotta's developments rarely seem to follow the straight path. If someone more amenable like Fred or old Marco wanted to implement that plan they might have had better luck (although obviously they would still have met a lot of resistance).

So the Peel Police have created a crime map. Check out Brampton... You can add layers on the left for types of crime to be plotted on the map.

My ex gf used to live near Jamestown Crescent. Her car was broken into 3 times in a year...
