HID questions

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get HID for 2 Civic and a CBR600RR. Hope someone can help.

Should I get Kensun? Are there better brands for 100 or less? It will cost me 500 to change all headlights to HIDs
Do I need to remove the fairing to change to HID on my CBR?Or can I just reach in and change it? Do I need to buy a rely for the CBR?
Legal issues with HIDs?

Any other additional tips before I spend money will be greatly appreicated. Thanks in advance

Based on the new safety standards being implemented in Ontario, retrofit hids fail and you should not be able to get safety's if you wanted them. Just something to keep in mind.

At the very least if you do this, retrofit with projectors vs just putting HID bulbs in your reflectors. The objective is to give you more light to drive...not to blind those around you (and actually put less light on the road).

Hid's in reflectors are terrible output, and actually have less effectiveness than your halogen bulbs. Your Hotspot (yes, halogen reflectors have hot spots), which gives your distance visibility is no longer existent and glare is up 100%.
A projector retrofit, while more expensive is the way to go.
You can check out www.gtaretrofits.com for a local guy.

I put HIDS in the reflectors on my 2015 cbr600rr. Wasn't all that hard, just took the side plastics off to mount the ballasts. I did a write up on the 600rr forum.

As for light output, I haven't ridden at night yet so I'm not sure on how much brighter they are. I will say that anyone who says HIDs in reflectors are not are responsible bright has no idea what they're talking about. I've used HIDs in 4 vehicles in reflectors and they're WAY brighter than stock, at least double. My current truck has projectors for the low beams are resound reflectors for the highs. If you comparer the stock highs to the HID's there wouldn't even be a contest. Projectors work better, but don't believe someone when they say an HID will be worse..lol

But you will piss off everyone around you and prove that you are an a*hole by putting HID's in reflectors, day and night.

ya they are brighter, but in the 600rr they are known to melt the headlight housings (happened to a buddy)

for bikes put in PIAA bulbs
i have a HID kit for my truck but its not installed yet, i have projectors though. not all projectors are stock HID and not all reflector housings are for halogen.
take a look at the 2003 G35 with HID's... reflector housings.

In my experience I've found that projectors are just as bad as reflectors when they're coming at you. Plus spending $1000 on projectors just so I don't "piss people off" on the very few times I need to ride at night seems a little stupid to me. In the day no one will complain about them, but I will be more visible.

That's why I went with 35w instead of 55. I'll get less heat. I also know riders with the same set up who haven't had any issues with melting

Please don't be that guy/gal.

As well as not piss ing people off you may save yourself from blinding someone who then drifts across into you. Bang you're fken dead.

Anyone who has an issue is more than welcome to send me the $1000 to add projectors for the maybe 5 times I ride at night.

Civics are one of the worst housings to put hid's in. You'll be blinding all oncoming traffic.

There are some cars that are just annoying, but still less blinding but just think, if you're on a one lane coming, one lane going road, and the oncoming car can't see anything anymore at night cuz of your headlights, do you feel safe?

Really, the lighting systems in all cars and the road lighting is sufficient for what ppl do on the roads. I just can't fathom when ppl say they can't see jack on roads at night...

I can't believe this is still an arguable point that HID retrofits in standard housings are simply not designed to project that type of light.

Then why bother?

The people who have an issue could be the ones that cause you an accident on the 5 or 6 times you ride, that's the point. I had a low beam HID on my last bike in a housing that actually wasn't too bad for it (fish eye lens cover) but it was far from ideal. I'm taking a long hard look at what I might need for my new bike and you really need a light with a clearly defined cutoff for low beam. Some of the newer LED lights have this, many don't.

Not even ****ing close to a grand bud. Try less than half.
BKMoto
I wouldn't do it on my own, I'd buy a whole new assembly. Clearly the US exchange rate flew right over your head, bud.. Cost break down for you:
Housing: 600
HID kit: 100
Shipping: 50
Customs ********: ???
Now that's US..There's a 31% difference to Canadian.

That works out to $982 Canadian. That's before any tax or customs fees, so it's over $1000.
Then why bother?
Much more visible, looks better than ugly yellow, and much brighter when I do ride at night, because the stock lights on my bike were straight up terrible.
