State Farm renewal raises my Super Sport rate 275% on BMW

Just received renewal from Certas - dropped rate by 5% from State Farm rate paid last year. Clean record, over 50 - and reasonable for a machine that is crazy-powered at 66 hp - rather than insanely powered machines which are more useful on the track or in Europe on the autobahn.

Reminds me of an old saying, 'what separates the men from the boys, is the price of their toys'. So too if you demand insanely powerful machines, just be prepared to pay for it.

Just got my insurance renewal from State Farm /Certa Insurance Company and my rate for a 2011 BMW S1000RR went from $1440.00 per year to $4001.00 per year effective February 2016.
This represents a rate increase of 275%.
It should be noted that my $1440.00 rate included a $400 discount for attatching an auto to the policy....with out the car policy the rate would have been 30% higher or around $1840.00 per year. The $4001.00 quote also included the discount for having an auto policy with them.
I did not obtain the 2016 quote with out the car discount attached......scared to find out:sad:

I was advised that my new rate was the best rate a State Farm customer could expect as I had never filed an insurance claim, no tickets, 2 decades of continuous motorcycle coverage and have safe storage in a garage.

My agent confirmed that all Super Sport motorcycles insurance rates are going up 200-300% with all January 2016 and later renewals.
This rate included an additional 15 % surcharge for targeted brands of motorcycles.
I inquired which brands were targeted by Certa Insurance and was told this included BMW, Harley Davidson & Triumph.
I obtained a quote for a 2015 Triumph Tiger Explorer and the new rate is $1752., and for a 2015 Harley Davidson Fat Boy $2652.00 (remember these are the best possible rates one can attain...and these rates include an auto attatched to the policy for the discount,...others rates will likely be higher under the new pricing structure.

I'm more than happy to quote any SS up to 1000cc with riders over 6 years riding experience and 2 or less tickets, no motorcycle accidents

When I called allstates on the phone, they told me they won't insure the S1000RR. However when i contacted Grant from All States as mentioned above, he gave a very reasonable quote.

When I compare the SF increase year over year, i noticed the main bulk is coming from medical benefits.

Hey guys,

My driving record: Clean- no tickets, 28 yr old male, 2007 Suzuki GSX600r, 8 years motorcycle riding experience. I too saw my 2016 premium double. When I called in to ask for a better rate I found that there was nothing SF could have done to reduce the premium. Apparently SF and TD are moving away from certain types of motorcycles. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved away from motorcycles in general in the future.

Solution: Having your premiums double is outright stressful. A couple of buddies I met at one of last year's bike meetups shared their broker with me. He rides too and is well versed with whats happening in the insurance marketplace. If you have a super sport at the present moment there are specific insurance companies you should be with to get the best quote. Likewise, if you own a Harley there are other companies that have favorable policies geared to them. Main thing is to call a broker that has access to the widest range of insurance providers. Major KEY. It was a pleasure dealing with a broker that rides as well and can get you on insurance completely online! Highly recommended:

Just switched to Allstate from SF. 2013 RSV4, 34 yrs old, 6 years insured riding history, brought over house and car. $1058 /year on the bike. Also saving nearly $1200/year across the three polices; and I only had my Speed Triple insured with them at the end of last season! (I only insure one at a time)

I talked to my SF agent and she offered to check what my rates would be switching back to the Aprilia before I signed the cancellation... after checking, she just sighed and said sorry to see you leave. Never did tell what the price would have been
:lmao:

Just got blind sided by my renewal. 2001 F4i, was $1100. 30 years old, clean record, no accidents, with M, riding since I was 19. Renewal acme in at $2500. Thanks Statefarm. I'm moving all my insurance elsewhere.

All-state won't help me unless I move my cars and house to them but I get TOO good of a deal with a group rate through my work to move that stuff. Of course the group policy won't touch bikes, boats, snowmobiles, and other toys.

I'm freaking livid over this increase. It's like my rates just went back up to when I was 19 years old on a Facility policy.

Only option to keep your sanity on insurance cost is to leave ON it seems. What a ridiculous situation we are in.

You're not the only one livid. my renewal went from $2000-3800 april 1st. I already cancelled

Bike will be sitting in the garage for the next couple years. Not worth the hassle.

I just talked to my SF agent and my 2002 CBR F4i is going from $700 per year up to $1350 per year. Im 40, no accidents or tickets....Bye Bye SF.

Just got my renewal back for my Ninja 250R which I won't be riding anymore but the rate went down. It was at 1019 and now it's at 870, they have also given me the best offer on my ZX6R so far which is hovering just below 2800 from what I remember.

just got my renewal aswell from state farm (certas) been with them 7 yrs paying $1100 for my r1 now they went $4800 !!
will be switching asap !!

I just to got my renewal for State Farm. Went from just under $900 per year to $3300 per year for my Triumph Daytona. I guess 20+ years of loyalty with multiple policies (house, 2 cars, 2 life policies, motorcycle and a whole bunch of personal items) mean nothing to them.

I am getting quotes from other companies and am getter better deals for everything except the bike - it's high no matter were go (but not $3300). So long State Farm!!!!!!!

EaZ8's broker checked out!!! Went from $2800 new statefarm quote to $1200 with CGNB brokers for comprehensive coverage on a 07 600RR. That was almost $600 less then my current 'unbeatable' statefarm rate. Thanks bud.
