bought a Harley but too many problems

The person who certified this bike should be under charges in my opinion.
The seller is one shady dude.
These people just took you because you were new to the sport.
Complete scum bags.

Easy way to check if the bike is us model . The serial number starts with a number not a letter . They are exactly the same except serial number and speedo . The Canadian speedo can be bought cheaper in the us .
FYI, the serial number only tells the country the bike was built in, not the country it was built for. Also, the first digit is a number for any vehicle assembled in Canada or the US or Mexico, actually anywhere in North or South America or Oceania. So pretty useless for these purposes.

I think so, when it show he is absolutely wrong, then I may reveal his info to protect further ****.

If it is a U.S. bike punch the VIN into www.motorcyclevincheck.net to get its history. BTW, a Harley with 37k miles is far from being worn out *if* the bike has been properly maintained. HDs will run past 300,000 miles before a rebuild is necessary. You just have to do the required maintenance. The primary drive chains, the final drive belt and the charging system would be the first things I would check. Otherwise they pretty much run forever. If you got the thing at a steal of a price things might not be too bad.

Warped rear rotor is no big deal. What is the list of 10+ other problems?

For a 2006, even 40k miles isn't much on odo for a touring bike.

The issues I'd be concerned with are unseen. Compensator and cam tensioner. Those two tend to go and left alone can lead to costly repairs. I'd see if you can get a history on the bike to get a better understanding of what you have and take it from there.

No history? Research and ride. They are great machines for what they are.

It's not a car so, you will get wet. You will get cold. You will scrape the floor boards. You will smile.

Good luck!

Cam chain tensioner????????

This is a Harley we are talking about? Right?

OMG. What a waste of time. Just gear drive the thing and be done with it.

check the Cam, the Mechanic said, it's hydrolic, so it's good.
another big problem Harley mentioned was, 1500-2000 rpm, that was big metallic noise, so we open the Cam, Cam tensioner was suspicious. but it was good as above,

found the problem has come from loosen Pipe, Pipe bolt was gone (one of two). when we put the bold on it, it's much quieter then.

Yesterday's ride, now pretty good.

I will request Sale package to the dealer guy on Monday.

planning to make big tour to LA before Winter comes,

Thanks again all.

What 'Sale' package are you trying to get from the dealer, is this some HD thing or are you talking about the UVIP?
You've already registered and plated the bike, which requires a UVIP. That UVIP is no good to you when you go to sell it again since it won't list you on it as the registered owner. When you sell it then you have to get another one that shows you're the last registered owner.

Plus the uvip on an American bike won't have much history on it anyway, unless it was imported early in it's life.

I see, so no need the Sales package anymore.
i checked the site, it says
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/used.shtml

Sellers must :

  1. Buy this package if you are selling a used vehicle privately in Ontario
  2. Show it to all prospective buyers
  3. Give it to the buyer when you sell your vehicle.

so my case, he is a company, guess he doesn't have provide Used Vehicle Information Package

thanks

by the way, fellow riders,

Can you recommend trust shop for oil change and future repair? I am in Toronto.

thanks

Okay, so i'm guessing the 'dealer' you bought it from got it plated for you. Then, no you don't need the UVIP.

Where are you located? East? West? North?
If you just need oil changes, learn to do it yourself. They're easy to do.

I am near Sugar Beach, Javis and Lakeshore,
I think I can change the oil but How can I dispose old oil?
