Peel region garbage moving to carts, bi-weekly pickup.

I just got the notice today that starting next year Peel region is moving to bi-weekly garbage pickup and using carts for garbage and recycling.

No problem here, I don't mind the switch.

However, they tell me I need to choose a cart size, but then they don't put any dimensions or capacity... they just use arbitrary comparatives like 1-2 bags, 3-4 bags, etc

Garbage cart

Garbage carts are available in 3 sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Recommended cart sizes for your address are based on your house type.

A small cart will hold 2 - 3 bags of garbage.
A medium cart will hold 3 - 4 bags of garbage.
A large cart will hold 4 - 5 bags of garbage.
Recycling cart

Recycling carts are also available in 3 sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Recommended cart sizes for your address are based on your house type.

A small cart will hold 2 blue boxes.
A medium cart will hold 4 blue boxes.
A large cart will hold 6 blue boxes.

Sure, they say I can come see them, but then I will still have to bring a measuring tape to see which size will fit best in the area I keep these things.

Which leads to the point of my thread... maybe I am just getting more picky as I get older, but why is it that almost nothing seems to be done right, ever? Everything done is a half-arsed job and those responsible should be sacked. I don't hold on to any belief that things were done better before, no doubt they weren't... but fer christ's sake if you are going to do a job, do it right -- especially when I am footing the bill for it.

Peel no doubt spent a lot of money on someone to create this website, but absolutely no technical details are available and are probably very easy for them to get from their supplier for these carts.

Government style job security. Gotta have something to update the next time the re-do it at full price.

I've decided to help you out by taking 2 pertinent screenshots of the short video posted on their website. I hope it aids you in choosing the correct size container. The gentleman in the video is 5'10" tall. Possibly single. Likely gay.

Personally I'll be getting a medium garbage container and a large recycling container. We fill up a large recycling cart every week as it is, so Im not thrilled about the switch.

If anyone does find out the dims please post (or maybe they are the same as the ones already in use in Toronto)!

+1 on missing an important piece of this rollout.

Just by clicking on your link, I can see the dude is 5'10". :)

Can someone overlay a grid on top of the image of this guy and figure out how many inches tall the medium and the large are?

I've got a work bench in my garage where the bottom is 41" high, and the garbage can resides under that work bench.

the dimensions are listed

Whoever designed and tested the green bin sure did a halfass job. Easy to tip and lid pops off upon impact resulting in obese raccoon population explosion.

What happens on those days where you are allowed to put out as much as you want (ie, around May24, Xmas, etc). Does everything have to be in the bins?

Only the GTA could make this so stupid, at my other house the bins come in one size so the truck can scoop them with side arms and one guy is in the truck. He almost never leaves the drivers seat. It keeps costs in line and it makes sense, Toronto will never figure out the easy stuff.

Just confirmed for the large size and upon confirmation they give you a pic with the dims - attached for large.

None of these bins will fit in the place where my blue box sits ... underneath a shelf in the kitchen cabinets. Oh well.

I have heard the large is HUGE. I just hate that I have to find a space to store these things and to top it off now my service is being reduced from weekly to bi.

Thanks for that, so I know I can't go with large, and small is too small for two weeks of garbage, so medium it is and I'll have to make it work.

God, York won't be far behind. So much for the garbage shed I built to free up space in the garage, I've only got 36" under the shelf.

So they tell you the size of the bins after you pick which size you want? Awesome system /sarcasm

Are they doing the same system as Toronto where the price goes up with bin size? Or are they all the same price and the big one is just a PITA to store?

they're free, actually

If you order before march, you get to pick the size. If you wait, they give you whatever they deem necessary. You can order now, but delivery is late in the year.

wait until the switch and you try and dispose of your old garbage can ;)
its near impossible to put a garbage can in the garbage
