Kahuna closing

Re: Kahuna closing?

To me sport means physical activity that gets the heart rate up, exerting muscles, etc. So a easy Sun ride isn't sport, but a track day would be. You can't tell me a race car driver of moto racer isn't in a sport. Some of them have to be in better shape and exert more than some sports require.

Then there's golf....
Then there's poker.

Re: Kahuna closing?

Wow - I just bought a 2013 Concours last winter from them and the bike is there for a warranty item. Norm (sales) is a standup guy - I would make a reference any day for him. Luis in service tries hard but he cannot compete with Pete's for tires (I compared and tried to give the business to Kahuna) and other parts. But they do seem disorganized - it took them over 3.5 months to get me a rear tire (the demo had a cut tire) and they finally got me an upgraded T30. But I got the front from Pete's which is below their cost. Who else is an authorized Kawi dealer? Snow City?

Can you quote the post where I said Support Kahuna?

Being happy about people losing their livelihood is low

Can you quote where anyone said they're happy about people losing their jobs?

Re: Kahuna closing?

can someone who has gone comment on the jacket, helmets and gloves? pricing????
im looking for the Icon Hooligan Spaztyk Jacket and ive got a buddy who will be looking for a jacket as well, and i could use a spare lid and gloves.

Re: Kahuna going out of business?

I thought snow city was a kawasaki dealer?

Snow City is a Kawasaki dealer and so is Burlington Cycle.
As for parts, many shops can order them, don't need to be a dealer for that.

I'm curious as to what Kahuna going-out-of-business sale looks like - 15% off the MSRP? Only 185% of what you pay anywhere else?

Thank god. I remember when I took my ZX6R for some warranty work once and it came back with a broken piece that held the right side of my windscreen. I ignored it at that time, but, what the hell! One should always respect someones machine when it's given to you for service work.

Re: Kahuna closing?

Went there this morning, George from Corsa Mechanica bought up all the lubricants, polishes and such from parts. I ended picking up an Arai Defiant cheaper than in the US so I am very happy. He has a few Arai's left if your looking for one it's a great deal. X-12's were on $399, some Shrk and Icon helmets as well. All the prices are great just the pickings are getting slim.

Went by today, bunch of helmets on sale - a bunch of scorpion exo 500/750s going for $99.
Shoei x-12 for $250 (I think - remembered wrong as pointed out by poukali above xD)
Bunch of Zox as well (didn't pay attention of the prices)

Most of the gear is for people with a med-large build but 70% off.

Didn't really look at footwear except for the "boots" that are basically runners for $100.

Re: Kahuna closing?

Post from another forum.... looks like they aren't COMPLETELY going out of business.
I was there this morning, and this is the story I was given -
This is a problem between management and the manufacturers. They are NOT going out of business.
It sounds like the owners want a better deal from the manufacturers who are balking...
Honda already had a trailer in the rear lot and was getting ready to load their bikes and take them away. Kahuna will no longer be a Honda dealer.
Kawasaki is not selling them anymore new bikes until/unless they come to an agreement, but they can continue to sell their Kawasaki inventory.
They fully expect to continue selling Indian and MV Agusta.
They are losing money on their accessory/clothing sections and looking to downsize or eliminate that part of the business.
They will keep the Service Dept. running.
They plan on giving up the portion of the building presently used as the bike showroom, and keeping the portion where currently the clothing and Service Dept are.
The items were picked over, and limited in size. I didn't find anything I wanted... but $99 for a Scorpion helmet is a smoking deal.
They had Triumph safety clothing for 70% off... TCX boots (limited) for $69
I wouldn't be giving up work time to go there to shop, that's for sure.
Anyway, that's the info I got from an employee.

Re: Kahuna closing?

I heard from one of Kahuna's employees that MV wasn't moving a lot of units and they dropped the line a few months ago if not almost a year ago. IIRC a new GTA dealer picked up MV this year as well so the part about retaining MV sounds wrong to me anyways.

Who or what is IIRC?

Back in February of this year at the manufactures show Ride Cycle did not have a presence on the MV Agusta stand. I thought it was due to their staff being stretched between the other brands they carried. However, Sturgis Cycle was there as the newest MV dealer in Ontario. I didn't put two and two together until after the show.
I think there is blame on both sides here at least where MV is concerned. I know that MV Agusta Canada, (MotoVan) screwed Ride Cycles in 2012 with their F3 allotment. Ride had ordered five and specified a minimum of two to be the red/silver combo as those were pre sold. They received five white and two Oro's. Tim Massarelli of MV Canada and I had been in contact about my bike from before I ordered it. I had given Ride a $1000 deposit some seven months before the bikes arrived. It took a couple of days after the bikes were unloaded before the truth came out that my bike went to Royal distributing and if I still wanted it I'd have to deal with them. It was clear to me that MotoVan was playing favourites with Royal by giving them my pre sold F3. I won't get into the details but after getting the run around by Royal and Dukes for three days I ended up getting my F3 from Motor Sports World in Ottawa.
It took me over a month to get my $1000 deposit back from Ride. Something about it being tied up with the accountants. However, I paid using a credit card and therefore it should have been easily reversible. Like I said, blame on both sides.

MV is definitely out. I bought my bike from Ride last year and called about getting it serviced this year but was informed that they (Kahuna) no longer sell or service MVs.

Re: Kahuna closing?

If you consider driving your car around to be 'sport' then yeah I guess riding a motorcycle around town is also sport.

Competitive hotdog eating is a sport. Everything is a sport these days, to justify drinking Gatorade and carb loading.

Sport means competition, there is a huge difference between a track day and racing. Without competition, its an activity.
I used to race bicycles, and I get annoyed when people refer to a 200km charity ride as a "race".

Re: Kahuna closing?

Just to confirm that they are closed as of 7/14/14. Sad notice on the door and it says that they went bancrupt.

Re: Kahuna closing?

Yup, bankrupt but they claimed otherwise until the very last day. "Just moving", or "changing to a service-only shop" etc... Even the last day they were open, they were trying to take orders from customers etc.

I know of at least one rider whose bike wound up getting locked up inside the shop, despite one of their service guys telling him he'd be able to come pick it up on the Saturday AFTER they closed up permanently. It appears they closed "officially" on Friday the 18th -- the few days prior to that they were "closed for inventory"... so the poor guy is now out both his bike, AND the money he paid them for it, unless the number on that notice gets him somewhere. Pretty bad deal.
