Not a big fan of US motorcycle media. Among this "bra's" snappy quotes:

"It has 105 hp, which I know does not sound like a lot"

"It's only $7995, which is really, really cheap". I like how the media tells us what is cheap with costs, especially since they rarely actually buy the bikes they ride.
He then goes on to tell us how badly the suspension sucks, so basically you need to buy better shocks and modify the forks out of the box, and the brakes suck.

It's as if they realized they made a better, cheaper R6, so they had to downrate it to distinguish from an R6.

I am liking that engine sound. 188KG is pretty impressive. Other reviews from Europe don't seem bothered by the handling and make the bike out to be a bargain.

Can't find the review you're talking about. If it's the same guy who wrote the Ninja 1000 ABS review, who calls it a "a track bike, but with baggage compartments and some other touring adornments" then, well... no.

This bike, more than any other to date, has me wanting to replace my KTM

It sounds like it needs better fork springs, maybe an emulator, better shock. Definitely needs better bars, as the riders seem crowded and have to lean forward top keep the wheel down.
This review, you can see how badly the front dives under braking. I would bet the brakes are fine, but the suspension makes braking tricky.

With some work, this would be a killer for <$9500.

It would seem they are targeting many markets, including touring, but this is really an urban bike.

Lighter than Ducati 899.

I am so close to pulling the trigger on this thing. The way I look at it for the cost savings on the bike you can upgrade the suspension to be far better then anything else in the price range.

FZ9 gets a +1 for how easy it will be to get parts for it in comparison to the MV or Triumph.

Ouuuu, I want one of these for a daily rider and use the R6 on weekend..

In the first place... it won't need as many parts ever, in comparison to the MV or Triumph! So that's + + 1

Also, being cheaper, replacement value is lower, and insurance cost should be lower (or at least that's what common sense indicates... insurance is out of whack anyway). If the insurance is lower than MV or Triumph, then it is + + + 1

Yamaha must not have bought any ad space with Motor Trend, or the review would have been glowing.

Waiting for R version .... Don't ever want to buy a bike which need suspension work from day one. That will also give Yamaha ample time to fix the reportedly not very good fuelling. Not like Yamaha .... I guess the price made them cut corners at few places.

Unless you're at a racetrack, the FZ9 will spank your R6 everywhere, regardless what day of the week it is,LOL
More power, less weight, better riding position, way more leverage with that upright bar. And let's face it, the better suspension on your R6 can't be exploited on roads unless you want to go to jail or risk death. Even awesome roads like in the Smoky Mountains, an upright naked bike will destroy it's sportbike counterpart.

It's pretty easy to MV or Triumph parts.

Being a Triumph rider.....it's not pretty easy compared to Japanese bikes. Summers are short here, time's a wasting.

+1 It's the waiting that's difficult.

As for the MT-09, it's very nice to see another triple hitting the market.
