That'd be like growing up wanting to work at McDonalds.

Not really .... The players are paid too well with almost zero cost to them ... Including daily meals and those are not burgers or apple pies, two for a buck.

The Toronto Maple Leafs finally felt the financial consequences of their poor on-ice performance Monday against the Minnesota Wild.

The Maple Leafs announced an attendance of 18,366 at Air Canada Centre for Monday's contest, marking the first time in 13 years the franchise has failed to sell out a home game.

So like 25 people didn't show up?
18k people is still a lot of $$

Even if the people dint show up, the seats were still paid for. All MLSE is out is a few beersand popcorn.

Those empty seats should be passed on to charities that givepeople the opportunity to see a game that will never have the means during a typicalseason

I haven't followed this thread but did some Google work.

I was surprised that most of the 1967 Stanley Cup players are still alive. Is hope keeping them going?

Only six have died. The rest from 70 to 90 years old (Bower) are still around. Would there be massive heart attacks with them if the Leafs won?

That cracked me up too.

Greed, money whatever .... Seems like marriage in heaven. The richest club hires the most expensive coach .... While others actually playing for the cup .... LOL

Could have taken a little less and stay with club who actually has reputation and knows what they are doing and has one of the best owners in sports. I don't agree often with Donald, but in this one he was spot on.

We'll see what happens and how much control he'll have of the on-ice product. Wonder if it will be a dual GM/Coach role?

50 million for a new coach when they absolutely suck. Good to see them waste more money. Keep paying the outrageous ticket prices sheeple. Things are bound to improve :lmao:

They're spending money they already have. If they can't do anything with the cap, they'll toss it around elsewhere to show 'they mean business '. Whether that will mean a decent product on the ice.... to be determined.

Agreed

The leafs are great at spending money on great talent and turning it to less than nothing.

The losing culture goes beyond the coach and players. And there isn't a thing this coach or any players can do.

They don't have anything to lose or anything to play for.

Come and get your cheque to cash out. Then go play for a cup for an organization that really is doing the things right to get there.

You sir get it, with exception to that they have anything to play for. They actually do (obviously not the coach or the players with their guaranteed contracts), as Bay street agrees as well .... they (the owners) would make a lot more money from selling more Leafs crap to their sheep and charging more for TV rights, if they would actually win the cup one year. But I guess the argument is, that the formula is so bullet proof to their pathetic record that they really cannot bother to work harder to make a lot more .... Can you blame them? Most of their fans would answer ... "no we cannot, hence we keep buying, coming and tuning in."
