Canadians working abroad

How do you guys find work in US as Canadians? I have been trying with no luck. Btw, Ecuador does sound nice.

Why are you trying? That affects the paths that will work for you.

Can you do something that they can't easily find in their domestic talent pool? My brother worked on an L1 visa for years which costs the company thousands to apply for and the application stated that they were unable to find an applicant with the required skills within the US. For most companies and most jobs, the cost and hassle of importing talent is just not worth it. Obviously in big money sectors like tech, they do it all the time and it is a small percentage of their talent acquisition costs.

The easiest route for many is work for the Canadian subsidiary of a company and get transferred to the US.

applying yourself for a US position is not likely to work out
there needs to be a company in need
and typically they will use a recruiting contractor to build a short list
if the recruiter can't find local talent that suits the clients needs
they may recommend sourcing outside of the US

you can get yourself on the DB for recruiters
and maintain a relationship with them
I've been dealing with a few of them that have placed me over the last 15 years
one in Alberta, one in the UK, one in South Africa
have never wanted to go to the US, doesn't pay very well
