Like many others have stated it is nice to have it mounted on the chin. I also have another one mounted on the tail section of my bike (this won't work if you have the passenger seat on).
I've been pulled over before and passed hundreds of cops. I've never been hassled for having it mounted on the chin of my helmet. Maybe if you get pulled over and start giving the cop lip they'd hassle you for it.

If using a clip instead of sticking it to your helmet is more "legal" I find the Dango Grip Mount works great for chin-mounting:
