Riding with one eye.

Developed a weird eye problem coming home from Aus and typing this sitting at the hospital.

My eyes are slightly out of synch - each eye is sharp, no headaches etc but to varying degrees across the visual field they won't line up ( think binoculars with the prism slightly out of whack. )

I was heading over to pick up the CB500x in a few hours but putting that off.

Getting CT scan as my family doctor said get to emerge. Fine thing to be told sitting in LAX waiting for the flight to Toronto.

Distance vision seems fine but typing with both eyes open just about impossible so I have a patch on one.'

Anyone else riding with vision issues??

When I used to wear contacts, they didn't correct astigmatism so things were always a little off when riding. It wasnt nearly as bad as what you are describing and lasik took care of it years ago.
Take care of yourself macdoc. I wouldn't go fornanridenwith one eye unless I knew what was going on and I had given myself time to adapt to it.

Hopefully it’s just something temporary from the long flight back.

Impatiently waiting on CT scan ...certainly more than just flight fatigue - big issue is check it's not one of the serious causes.
It started on the short leg from Cairns to Brisbane which was only two hours and I thought it might be from an awkward sleeping position on that flight.

But emailed my doc from Brisbane and asked as i had not completely faded but did not get an answer until I was in LA......"get thee hence to emerg !!!"

Wasn't doing THAT in the US so fast flight to Toronto with a big tail wind and was not having much trouble ...watched a couple of good movies but then came back clearly customs and waiting for luggage that did not show :(

I have no other symptoms - even my usual not enough water headache is very faint....tho that could be from taking some extra aspirin as a stroke pallitive ( blood thinning ) just in case.

Right now tho desperately sleepy but told CT coming up shortly.
GOt a coffee and tims mcmuffin so feel fine except for sleep.

Bloody chilly out to pick up the CB500x but might sign the papers and get it tomorrow.

I could easily ride, drive with an eye patch but right now negotiating steps etc is fraught,....

yikkies, hopefully this is just temporary.
GWS!

Easily ride/drive with no depth perception, interesting.

Your eyes are out of collimation :| no pain, no inflammation or obvious damage to the cornea? ... you seeing any floaters or weird light shows along with it?
I'd be consulting an ophthalmologist to look into the possibility of retinal detachment asap. Not something you wait to go away or get worse, seek treatment immediately.

nope

nope
Quite aware of those both from the occasional bad migraine and had a floarter once - got it checked - it eventually went away.

Waiting for the scan results...go from there. Kinda hard to get immediate treatment enroute from Australia ....but got in at 3.30 and at Emerg an hour later

More common than you think

Sorry to hear about your issues, i had my own eye concern earlier this year.

Lost sharpness in one eye for about 6 hours, went to the specialist and had a complete battery of tests done. Both eyes in optimal condition

/shrug

Results from CT scan? <- that's X-ray isn't it?
... I'd be wanting an eye and orbit ultrasound plus fundus pictures.

Were the visual symptoms proceeded by any trauma that could relate to intra-occular pressure stress? -> severe coughing, vomiting, sneezing ...

CT - computer tomography

They send die through the circulation in the affected area

They are ordering an MRI ( next few days )

I woke up with it after a nap on the plane.....there are zero surrounding symptoms.

It is exactly like looking through binocs with slightly misaligned prisms.

Back home for some much needed sleep....still annoying

couple of follow up appointments

they are looking for a different cause, i only know optical stuff.
if you look off at a point towards infinity and somebody Else looks at your eyes do your eyes look crosseyed or skewed to them?
... what did they look at your eyes with so far?
did they put you behind a phoroptor? <- eye test thingy with all the lenses that you can possibly dial in

There is a well known racer in the community who has only one eye. The other one is glass. He's also pretty fast. So it's do-able.

I've ridden thousands of KMs with one eye driving and riding.
It's tuffer at night as I used objects around me to judge distance (depth).
Overall, it's not a problem.

Some viral infections can “unyoke” your eyes as a side effect, ie they don’t quite move together/focus together easily. My old boss got this with an infection one time but I seem to remember it made him pretty nauseous. If it’s this it goes away when the infection is cleared. You could still have it if asymptomatic with the virus or the infection symptoms may show in a while. Also...glaucoma?

I have retinal detachment so can only see 1 eye. I'm more comfortable on 2 wheels than 4. Though I drive 200+ kms a day. Adjust and get used to it.

Lay off the Cialis.

J/K, hope it's nothing serious. GWS

Thanks for feedback.

The mis-alignment is occurring only in a rather narrow window - ie if I look at the screen from the top of my visual field I can see fine - no overlap...but if I look down to the keys I get overlap.

Both eyes test fine for vision and detail.
Both eyes pressure are identical and in normal range.

I know the brain is very plastic in coping ....so I'll try tomorrow maybe or tonight see how it goes for a short drive. Need to get an eye patch or perhaps get two so I switch off.

I've been dealing with an annoying bacterial infection I picked up in Australia but nothing viral at all...tis a mystery this eye issue as really tough on stairs or anything needing depth perception looking down.

Except right now sitting at my desk working both eyes are fine...
