Doing a multi day ride around the big lake. Finally had a chance to do a multi day ride and the weather looked good so I struck out!

On my list of rides to do. Riding solo?

Yup on my own. Been great! Some parts of Northern Ontario it really is just you, the road, and scenery. No one around, it is amazing

I love this ride. I prefer the clockwise route, scorching hot on the south side of the lake, refreshingly cool returning on the northside.

I have always camped. The northern peninsula state parks are fantastic, camping is about $15/night. The parks on the Ontario side are great too, so is the local food just about anywhere close to the lakeshore.

Must sees:
The loop out to Copper Harbor, MI
Aerostich in Duluth
Split Rock Lighthouse just north of Duluth
Greatlakes Shipwreck Museum, Whitefish Bay MI

ps. No lid laws in MI or WI.

I just did my first one last year and enjoyed ....lovely and cool on the north side - south side was brutally hot ( June 27 heat wave in Toronto I buggered off )

Adding in the Grand Algoma loop is nice as well

Do the Copper Harbor - mind the deer

....and coming south pick up Tunnel of Trees. Food is good in diners etc but WAAAAY too much of it per serving.

Greatlakes Shipwreck Museum, Whitefish Bay MI
- put that on my bucket list ...maybe next spring on the CBX..... unless we have a really nice October when I get back.

The sleeping giant park, sleeping giant brewery, the prospector (steakhouse) and Mt.Mckay are also good stops in the Thunder Bay area

Prince Arthur Hotel in Tbay is a good bike friendly place to stay
special, secure area for bikes, free bug towel
affordable rates, restaurants and pubs within walking distance
and 1 block from the waterfront

The Prospector Rib Eye or Prime Rib are excellent. Service excellent too.

Thanks for all the input. This trip was decided last minute and planning was also quickly done. Plus some mis steps here or there. But overall I am very pleased.

I have returned back home tonight. Sore as heck, but glad I did it. Now I know how to do better at this.

Still not bad for my first year of riding.

Someone mentioned a light house??
Felt like bit of a tourist trap. Not much to see for $10, but still interesting

Along the way during the tunnel of trees

The last couple of days were mostly interstate, since I wanted to get down to Milwaukee. So I had to skip all of the south side of Lake Superior. I had to pick and choose to keep to some sort of timeline, and things were fairly far apart.

Plus I hit some rain from Green Bay to machinhaw bridge. Went from soaked, to dry to wet again.

I am pretty sure I did find the tunnel of trees on the west side of Lake Michigan, it was a nice country road run at a decent pace.

The bike ran great no issues. But now I have a bunch of maintenance to do.

Tunnel of trees is on south shore of Superior, on the way to Copper Harbor. It;s about about 1/2 way between Duluth and Marquette - a nice respite from the brutal heat you see along the south shore of Superior right now.

Ummm not quite ...it's east coast of Lake Michigan

Northern Michigan’s Tunnel of Trees along M-119 is one of the area’s most iconic attractions. The magical, scenic road winds from Harbor Springs, (north of Petoskey) to Cross Village. The Tunnel of Trees, ranked among the most scenic roads in the nation, is especially breathtaking in spring when trilliums carpet the forest floor that borders the road, and in autumn when the hardwoods along it are aflame in fall color.

But I know the route up to Copper Harbor you are thinking of....it's superb.

Looks like a great ride. Nice goin', Mr. Burns.

Congratulations on your trip. Could you tell me what the road is like along the North shore of Superior? What is the speed limit? I am older, and don’t like going too fast :)

Thanks!

I am pretty sure it was 90. But if you wanted to go slower it would not be an issue as there was not much traffic. Part of the beauty of the trip. Plus there are plenty of passing lanes if you need or let others by.
