Doug ford - First month in a nutshell

I'm sure there's more to defining what the gas prices are/should be, but I (don't know about anyone else), was led to believe the the Cap and Trade program was the cause of around the $0.10 increase. Eliminating it brought it back down for a week or two, but now it's back up.

Would this mean gas would have hit almost $1.5/L if the program wasn't cancelled, or was the short-term drop just another short-term political move to prove that our premier is sticking to what he claims?

Supply and demand.

The extra $0.10 saw zero reduction in consumption. Retailers know we’re willing to pay $1.35/L.

The $0.10/L reduction in tax was offset by an increase in price and profit.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot.

Sad face.

Bring back the cap and trade program + EV rebate, and let me get my EV minus $14k!

Anyone else notice gas prices dropping by $0.10 the week of ditching the cap and trade program, but as of this week, it's gone up $0.13+ since then?

Gee, how surprising. Said nobody, ever.

Still waiting for buck a beer as well.

Sad face.

Bring back the cap and trade program + EV rebate, and let me get my EV minus $14k!

I'm waiting for Doug's inevitable declaration that he doesn't believe in climate change.

He made 5 promises https://www.ontariopc.ca/plan_for_the_people none of them have been realized yet and the promise of accountability and trust has already been broken in a big way.

The video in the OP said both Wynne and Ford were at 40% when they started. Obviously polls vary but I'd like to know where you got your info?

The first promise is actually more like 5 promises. He started with the cap and trade.

He's fired the hydro one CEO

He's started an audit, and has taken numerous steps to reign in govt spending(Iv posted several news reports about this)

at this rate i have no doubts the rest of them will be fulfilled. Heck even if some of them aren't fulfilled a man like ford doesn't sit around. Things WILL get done in ontario.

I'm also all for reducing Toronto city Councillors.

The reality is CO2 emissions have a cost, and eventually Conservatives will come around and accept that like they eventually accepted every other advancement progressive put forward, but by then it will be too late. We'll be behind other jurisdictions in our dependence on fossil fuels and technological base to support alternatives. And when that time comes everyone will wonder why Ontario is so far behind on this issue, figuring it must be because of those greedy self-serving progressives who tax us to hell and leave us with nothing to show for it. Short term gain for long term pain. It's sickening.

As for the Hydro CEO I've said before I supported that if possible. Of course it turns out what Ford has done hasn't saved anything, instead he may have crippled their ability to perform their basic function of supplying people with reliable hydro at the best possible rates. Again, when we're stuck with an ever deepening hydro crisis in 20-30 years people will look back and blame the government they hate the most for all the problems. But here we are in the very moment that it's happening, encouraging it. More short term 'gain' for long term pain. Still sickening.

Regarding the audit: Is that the same one that found savings in fridges, kettles, and running water in active workplaces? More short term... oh you get the mantra by now.

"Things will get done". Great. You could say the same about The Joker, he wasn't a man to just sit around.

As for the issue of councillors, that's not the point. Ford went and upturned an election in progress for the deliberate purpose of payback to the city that rejected him four years ago. And without consultation, of course, exactly what he complained about regarding the sex ed curriculum except this goes to the heart of democracy, and his absence of consultation is real, not imagined. Incredible hypocrisy. The legislation will likely be stayed in court, at a cost of millions in legal costs and administrative costs for a potential whole new election in only 2 1/2 months. This is about saving money, right? It's not about his ego?

Remind me if any of that sounds familiar. A newly elected leader with a thin skin, making sweeping and sudden changes to existing laws with no warning, causing harm to people he chooses to dislike, that will eventually be overturned in court. Where have I heard that before?

I'm all for carbon reduction and working to help climate change, but even if the 4.4 billion of us in North America stop burning anything today, the 60 billion scattered around the rest of the planet will carry on.

Hate to say it but Doug's on the right track.

His announcement to also kick the "fair average income" program to the curb is a gift to those that would pay for it. I'm for helping those that truly need it, equalizing salaries 'just because' is getting pretty close to socialism for me

I don't know where you got your figures. Population of the planet as of today is 7.6B and change. Here's a real-time counter.

World Population Clock

Helping those in need is socialism. Equalizing salaries is communism lite.

The do have a cost however what makes you think we are behind? Ontario is well below 1990 emissions and continuing to drop. Carbon taxes are not a silver bullet for reducing emissions -- they are however a golden goose for gov't that simply want to raise tax revenues. The prior gov't directed some carbon tax revenues into green programs however they were feeble and achieved little - they use most of what the collected to cover their mistakes and on political boondoggles.

Hydro One is a political and corporate culture enema. I think most people get the cost of 'friends of the Liberals' in the the CEO and the Liberal appointed board were a drop in the bucket. The change provides the opportunity to set Hydro up as a business that is responsible to shareholders -- not beholden to the Liberals. It also sends a strong message that waste and greed in the order that exists at Hydro will net be the deal of the day as we go forward. I'm sure the executive offices are most Ontario gov't controlled businesses took notice -- or even better felt like they were on notice to be sure there is no wretched excess in their camps.
Regarding the audit: Is that the same one that found savings in fridges, kettles, and running water in active workplaces? More short term... oh you get the mantra by now.
Audits take time and the audited are rarely cooperative or forthcoming.
"Things will get done". Great. You could say the same about The Joker, he wasn't a man to just sit around.
The good news is they are getting done.

Difference is he got a mandate to reduce gov't spending. He's got some historical insight into Toronto and sees a way to reduce costs AND settle some political vendettas -- as Gloria would say "2 birds with one bullet. "
Remind me if any of that sounds familiar. A newly elected leader with a thin skin, making sweeping and sudden changes to existing laws with no warning, causing harm to people he chooses to dislike, that will eventually be overturned in court. Where have I heard that before?
That sounds like our ousted leader. These are within the provinces rights and the party's mandate. It may make liberals mad, but it's somehow increasing the PC's popularity -- that means Ford is winning over constituents.

If I challenge you on some of your claims, will you try and answer? Because you haven't before and I don't want to keep wasting my time.
