CB500x .....in my near future?? Thinking out loud.

Nice bike congrats Macdoc! I've been eying them as well (along with everything else) but a part of me wants to get away from the Honda...try something new...will see.

Waiting for my return - you wanna try something new - buy my CBF... :D

I am going to have to keep my eyes open......to see if I see you....

any decent day at the Forks. I'll be working and enjoying the chit chat

very neat looking midsize ADV

congrats

Good solo tourer for me - looking forward to it. Apparently Honda has really refined that motor for no buzz at touring speeds.

I think they may have eliminated even that on the 2018. CBF is sold for 50% more than the trade that was offered.

Re: CB500x ....arriving today !!!!

Well it's about time things bounced the correct way.

Glad I had enough spare gear as stuff was delayed in transit with my luggage but that is coming this afternoon. √

The dealership agreed to let me pick the bike up now instead of Tuesday. √

Should be on the road around 3 pm :D

This should be clear by then but don't really care ...it's not far and jacket is waterproof.

One fly in the ointment...Fort Nine shipped the wrong Pinlock for the C3....
They shipped yellow I HATE YELLOW !!!!! ...sigh

Let us know how you like it :)

Re: CB500x ....arriving today !!!!

Got 120 km on today - not sure of the weather tomorrow. Will finish off putting some farkles on.

Stock windscreen was pretty good but I think the Madstad rig will be still worth it.

Easy bike to ride as I recalled it ...just don't like the position of the kickstand .....I'll get used to it.

My kickstand foot from the CBF1000 fits perfectly so one good thing.

My USB charger tho does not as yet. Seat was stiff of course so can't tell much.
Smooth shifter but was spoiled by the torque of the CBF so have to keep revs up a bit.

This was reassuring about an earlier model CB500x

I would have loved to inform you about my bike reaching 200.00km, but a cage driver decided otherwise. Fortunately only bruices and a ski-ing thumb.

After nearly 200.000km I am gonna say goodbye. I was not really active on this forum because the bike was so problem-free. In these 197.000km I had to replace the fork seals twice, head stock bearing, lower link bearing and the rear wheel bearings. For the rest it was maintenance according to the book

It is unpleasant..especially when you have wet feet/kickstand....

Even worse if you also have a centrestand

Re: CB500x ....arriving today !!!!

No centre stand and won't get one. Maybe it need something grippy on the top of the kickstand. .

Trying to avoid the ugly top case look -

going with this instead

for-HONDA-CB500X-CB-500-X-SHAD-SH23-Side-Boxs-Rack-Set-Motorcycle-Luggage-Case-Saddle.jpg_640x640.jpg

Top load and as far as I can see will fit my 15" Macbook Pro ( confirmed on a product review )

And very clean with the bags off

with their 3p mount.

shad7908_900x.jpg

On it's way $388.06 US shipped - gives me 46 Litres plus my 20 litre tank bag. Enough for 3-4 day trips.

I've got some other luggage can go on buddy seat if needed.
I like a topcase generally but not on this bike and the Shad 3p system is very elegant.

Re: CB500x ....arriving today !!!!

is a no brainer, top case is not suited to carry anything heavy & it interferes with your ability to ride the motorcycle better, side bins not nearly as bad in all respects.
need combination of both :/ buy a truck.

Re: CB500x ....arriving today !!!!

it is nice to have for spare layers ...but I agree bike handles in the wind better and easier to get a leg over.

Shad has a comfort seat/top case combo that brings the case over the pillion area so it's pure solo but worked well for my kid for 3 weeks.

He carried all his diabetes supplies in there ...which are light and the drying rack on top was invaluable. Worked out okay.

The poor old Vstrom took the load with just a few sparks hitting a bridge join ...

We both had decent size tank bags and the Jesse's were brilliant. Even room for the spare fuel.

Glad I got my pinlock installed....yikes the viz is bad. Forks is busy but only a few bikes...I think everyone got sideswiped by the fog and mist.

Top box is not necessary, but very convenient when you have to lock up your helmet. I am sure you know that already. Touring with side cases and putting bags on the seat will also be more than adequate.

Many people that I've known in the past few years who own the CB500X is because of practicality and not because they care too much of how it looks. Don't get me wrong, it is a good looking bike as it is. The best budget bike in recent years in my opinion.

Re: CB500x ....arriving today !!!!

Yeah anyone in the Vstrom crowd hardly cares for looks but the top case hanging out in the wind like a steering oar ain't cutting.

I'll back pack the computer till the side cases arrive.

Miserable riding weather today. No redeeming virtues at all.
