No way to get discounts on insrance.

It's renewal time! ya... no..

Both my car and bike are up for renewal in the same time frame. Calling around for the bike didn't generate any better quotes, and actually the renewal was the best offer. So I stuck with that.

The car renewal went up by about 20% which is about $373 more then last year. Yes it's crazy.

Calling around has not generated any better quotes I have only seen a difference of about $60 less then my renewal offer.
I feel totally pigenholed. It's crazy how they all offer the exact same rates. Even with bundling (with home) some rates are still higher. Even calling some of the insurance "specialists" offer no better service or rate. For kicks, I called this crazy high risk insurance broker and exactly the same rate. It's like they all know you will pay $xxx amount so they keep you at it.

Is there any way to get better rates other then move, get a different vehicle, or work for some group with group rate discounts?

I have been insured continuously, no tickets, no convictions, no accidents, nothing.
Last year $1934 this year $2307
Toyota Camry Hybrid
Basic coverage Lib 1 mil Comp etc $500, accident forgiveness.

I do live in Scarborough I know this is part of the problem. Curious on your feedback if your dealings with insurance quotes is the same as what I am finding?

IME, belairdirect has the best rates for car and home insurance. Sucks that they don't insure motorcycles.

If you can find a decent standalone motorcycle policy, you may still come out ahead.

only combo deal I could find was Wawanesa
big savings on the bike policy if combined with home and car
but the car was more, and home policy was no screaming deal

I think they use the cheap bike policy as a loss-leader

ended up just staying where I was
broker was not interested in doing much
I think that's their strategy
wear you down until you say eff it

Allstate does the same. Motorcycle policy is cheap, but car and home are not (relatively speaking).

Wow, that sucks. I'm paying less than that for two vehicles in York Region.

TD Meloche Monnex has some group rates that you may be eligible for (eg. uni alumni). IME, these rates aren't nearly as good as some of the other group rates, but it's worth a shot.

So by chance I tried one of the online quotes, lowestrate.ca and it got me some better quotes. I haven't had any luck with them in the past so I was quite surprised. CAA came up with the lowest rate. Just got off the phone with them and we had to move some numbers around to get to the same coverage I have currently, it is a little higher then what was quoted online, but still lower then my renewal.

This is looking a little better now. Will make a few more calls to compare some more, at least my anxiety level is a little less now....

Really!??

I tried with TD it was my first call. They quoted me $3712
And they have my home insurance....
Even with that "multi line" discount which maybe is 15% still way to high.
I tried the group/alumi an they stopped offering it for my alumi and I am not part of any group.

Allstate cars and bikes went down a bit this year, but then home went up 40% or something ridiculous in the last 2 years. No claims or tickets. They just give you some ridiculous story about how expensive building materials are. I asked them for receipts and verifiable market research to validate this claim. I have full confidence it will show up any day now.... lol

Allstate, in my case ftw.
Been there several years now. Zero deductable(s).
Every time my renewals come, I call 4 - 5 places for quotes. Nobody is close.
My house (17 yrs old) and my truck (2019) are less than $2000 combined. They upped my truck $13 more than a '16 suv I traded in.
I'm not back riding yet, but I can't get better prices anywhere else.
Being old, and existing in Hamilton may help?

I believe TD and MM are separate insurers, i could be wrong though.

F&$# TD MM. They robbed me for several years, even with alumni discount. Much happier now that I dumped them.

I did try quoting with them again, and was shocked to learn that my car insurance rates would be even higher than what I was paying before.

For motorcycle insurance (sport touring), they tried enforcing that I get an alarm system installed professionally else they won't insure it. Not to mention 6 yearly payments instead of 12.

I called Allstate for my bike renewal they said they only could do it if they had my car as well. They also needed to call be back with the quote as they couldn't do it live over the phone. I didn't bother calling them back.

Hamilton is probably way better then scarborough, too many idoits around Toronto f'ing it up for the rest of us.

TD and Allstate SUCK and overcharge for bike insurance. In 2004 I called for a quote on a dual sport motorcycle. TD wanted $950/year. Allstate was the worse. They wanted $1,700 a year. Duffy ins quoted me $357/year. I have been with them since. I dont know why all these guys here claim that Allstate is awesome... they suck.

Allstate is good for insuring supersports. Wawanesa is the best (they also do standalone policies on SS), but I'm told they require one to be licensed for at least 6 years by multiple brokers. That's why I moved to allstate this year and it's significantly cheaper than everywhere else (considering the SS rates these days). Not to mention, no one else wanted to insure me on a Ss, given I'm under 30. Not sure how they are for other types of bikes, but if you can get the elite rider discount, I hear it's cheap.

Hopefully next year wawanesa opens up as an option for me.

Did you try Dalton Timmis?

They got us the best motorcycle, home and auto quote. Believe the home and auto is with Aviva and the bike was Ecelon. I have friends at Allstate and I can get employee discounts with Desjardins/The Personal. They couldn’t do any better than Dalton Timmis could.

When I sold the HD and bought the MG, I went on line for a quote. The Agent with Dalton Timmis got me lower than the quote.

And I’ve got two minor tickets, one from 2015, the other 2016.

Home insurance, there are a lot of variables so, check what coverage you have. You might be over covered in some cases.

Location is a factor as you know but, brokers to have different places to refer business to and depending on your profile, might be able to find something to your advantage.

Luckily for you, they're all moving here

Not looking forward to my renewal with TD, fingers crossed it doesn't go up, but burlington is a reletively cheap area for insurance. When I told them I'm a Ryerson alumni my annual rate went from $2150 to $1650...pretty darn good promo. Do they think we are more responsible cause of graduating university? Not sure, but I wish more companies had promo like this
