Broken SW-Motec Trax luggage latch

Hello!

I have broken latch that holds side bag to the mounts.
It does not seem possible to buy replacement so I will need to fix it.
Unfortunately, this is on my vacation bike that is in Europe so I need to prepare the parts before I leave Canada.

Does anyone know what is the diameter of the wire clasp ( I do not have this type of luggage on my home bike)?
Where would one get wire that is appropriate for this use?

Photo of latch type attached...

Thanks for any info!

So, it's just the wire you are replacing?

I'm guessing 1/8" wire (3.2mm), unless someone can actually caliper it. You can get TIG welding wire in that diameter. Steel would rust, maybe SS?

Thanks! Would TIG welding wire be strong enough. There is bit of tension once clasp is locked.

Until you were comfortable with the bodge holding, I would have a add a safety of some kind. My first thought is a few wraps of tie wire around the latch bar and over the hook on the far side although there may be a better solution if we could see the whole system.

Here are few decent images of the system... (Not my bike, just same luggage)

The wire is pretty soft as its un-hardened so I don't know. Seems like it might be a little thicker than 1/8", so just wild guesses.
