Random roadside alcohol tests?

How long does it take?

Does the officer need a medical degree to perform or interpret the test?

How accurate and/or fallible are the devices used?

Do they require special care and handling?

So M2s should avoid the beer tent in Dover?

I made a post about it in the "Merry Xmas potheads" post - but here is the part you are talking about:

Mandatory alcohol screening
The proposed mandatory alcohol screening provisions would authorize law enforcement officers who have an “approved screening device” at hand to demand breath samples of any drivers they lawfully stop, without first requiring that they have a suspicion that the driver has alcohol in their body. As research shows that many impaired drivers are able to escape detection at check stops, this authority would help police detect more drivers who are “over 80” and reduce litigation regarding whether or not the officer had a reasonable suspicion. The result of a test on an approved screening device would not, by itself, lead to a charge. It would lead only to further investigation, including a test on an approved instrument at the police station.

The only difference is now the cop doesn't have to say "I smelled booze on his breath" before he gives you a breathalizer.

M2 is the same as M1 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% alcohol, so yes you should always have been avoiding beer for a day or two before a ride.

one interesting part is there's a combination limit for alcohol and THC
wonder what the methodology was to determine impairment when using both?

It looks like they just combined the lower limits of both (0.05 BAC and 2-2.5 metric weedograms)

The whole idea of THC tests have no scientific validity and is a farce. At present there is no valid test for THC "impairment".
Actually there is no valid definition of THC "impairment".
We have had 100 years to study alcohol impairment. Study of the effects of cannabis has been impossible because of legislation until the last few years, so basically we know nothing.

Any regular user of cannabis is legally impaired when he/she wakes up in the morning.

Wouldn't that be a discriminatory termination?

That one looks like the company lawyers should have had a close look prior to action being taken. Based on how the article was written, the employee did everything correctly (obviously only one side of the story but it seems plausible and well documented). I would expect that employee would win in court (although since he only worked for a day I wouldn't expect a huge settlement).

The 2 to 5 nano threshold for thc is low enough that if you blaze or ingest on Friday you will still be hot next Wednesday.

Haha, so basically weed is now legal but only if you don't ever operate a motor vehicle.

When the bus driver got fired, there was no legal limit for THC so the actual level is less relevant to his termination (and there was no mention of actual testing on the day he was accused).

Wouldn't that be a discriminatory termination?

Possibly, but if you can't afford a good lawyer and they can, what of it?

All people aren't always going to do the right thing, just because it is the right thing to do.

Ontario Employment Standards
3 month probation
can terminate without cause

The employers mistake was mentioning weed. That may give him a winnable case. If they just told him not to come back, he would have nothing to work with.

depends what they put on the ROE
even if MOL determines he is owed severance
it's a weeks pay/year of service
one day on the job = FA

Eh, charge for refusing to take one If they had suspicion was the same as blowing over. Nothing new here in my mind.

No different from setting up a RIDE checkpoint.
Don't drive under the influence and you have no issues.
