Oh yes lots of money saved.

Ford complains about liberals hiring senior level healthcare bureaucrats instead of more nurses. Proceeds to hire a senior level healthcare bureaucrat. Government sucks no matter who’s in power.

    [/COLOR]

So not fair to compare Ont to NY because of limited generating capability.

But it's fair to compare Ont to Man for which nearly all electricity generated is from Hydro.

And it's fair to compare Ont to Que despite 96.8% of its electricity coming from Hydro.

Gotchya. Geez... at least be consistent.

LOL. Since when is nuclear "low cost"? Maybe you're of the generation(s) that underpaid for the cost of hydro especially when it comes to refurbs of plants like Bruce and Darlington.

For decades Ontarians neglected to pay the true cost of our electricity and grid -- generation, transmission and growth, upkeep, upgrades, refurbishment -- and for decades Ontario Hydro debt grew and grew... The cost of our electricity has nothing to do with the chumps on the board or in the CEO's office.

I would like to see which of Doug's friends from the 'hood he installs and how quickly things turn around.

See above. Our generation mix is vastly different from theirs. If we were blessed with the same hydro resources they are (25% is hydro here vs 97% in Que and virtually 100% in Man) it might be fair to directly compare them.

Yours is the sort of simplistic thinking that allows populists like Ford to be elected on a "change a CEO and a BOD and our lives are going to change!" promise. I suppose time will tell. I'll not hold my breath waiting for a cost reduction that isn't simply a reversion to the old days of giving us a break now so that a later generation can pick up the real tab. Been there, done that.
Blackfin, you are woefully unprepared for this discussion. First off, hydro and nuclear generation in Ontario are virtually the same. Both have high build and maintenance costs & low generating cost. Nuclear has lower transmission costs are the plants have massive capacity and can be located closer to the need. Hydro, less so - which increases transmission costs. Ontario generates nuclear and hydro for the same cost today (within 0.5cents/kwh) when capx, maintenance, generation and transmission costs are accounted for.

By the way, Ontario has tons of untapped hydro potential, it's never been tapped because it's environmentally costly and there is no demand. You should know Ontario dumps energy below out generating costs (at a financial loss) -- because the current regime over provisioned and under marketed existing capacity (thanks McGinty, Wynne and the outgoing Hydro regime).

The late regime are the ones who managed the infrastructure and let the gov't operate the utility as a puppet instead of a executing their fiduciary duty to operate and maintain the utility and it's infrastructure for the benefit of the stakeholders -- that's why they are out. They let Wynne bury billions of he debt in their books, they let plants and grid pieces decay under their watch, they are the ones who managed refurb projects that went billions over budget.

    The boondoggle is over.

I'm gonna have a beer now to celebrate the gino I made on the $19 H i picked up this morning. Hopefully H takes off when they announce a new board and CEO. Thanks Doug!

What's wrong with that? An experienced doctor less with an impressive record of developing hospital efficiencies less than an average Ontario surgeon? Devlin is the guy responsible for transforming the under performing Humber River mess, to one of North America's most admired medical centers.

He's going to be paid less than the average surgeon on Ontario, and far less than what a highly acclaimed healthcare CEO can demand.

Looks like a deal for Ontario to me.

    Thanks Doug!

    Things are looking up already.

"Hydro One shares tumble after utility strikes deal with Doug Ford to replace board, CEO"

    https://business.financialpost.com/c...lace-board-ceo

Q: Why would the stock price go down after the ouster of the CEO and board of the allegedly worst-performing public utility in the developed world?

Shouldn't investors be dancing in the streets and throwing rose petals?

Profits going down as Ontarians won't be paying as much maybe?

The market doesn't like surprises. It's a risk, which has a cost. Probably like most people, analysts figured Dougs tough talk was just election bluster.

I figure the price will find its new norm after the new top brass are announced.
The odd times I felt I'd approached the truth, it rested on the premise that people are essentially good and smart.

Hey guys I ain’t no rocket scientist but explain this.

In 2015 liberals said they consulted 6000 random parents for approval and feed back prior to rolling out the sex ed.

Now the radio today is saying they only consulted with 1500 parents who all were hand picked

    Is this true?

what wrong with that? ask doug ford. hes the one whos wholly against executive salaries for bureaucrats. the dude has been retired for years. not sure why you think him getting paid less than the average surgeon is a win. ford puts wage freezes on public service managers and yet goes ahead and hires a close friend and former PC party president in a purely advisory role for 350k a year + expenses. but yeah, keep yelling stop the gravy train while being completely duped at the same time!

somewhere in the middle of that is the truth, my pure guess would be it was presented to 'selected' people for review.

The market will always react to a shakeup. Investors have H in their portfolio because it throws off a dependable 5% dividend. This is not guaranteed and most likely will change at the hands of new leadership -- particularly since the province, a 50% owner, wants changes.

The stock price drops because the dividend investors get skittish, the stock price will rebound if the business metrics improve under new leadership and new investors look to capitalize on the stock price rather than dividend.

Wynne clarified the fiberal numbers this spring, she stated there were 4000 'consulted'. This count included 1 person from every elementary school via online survey plus all the that worked on . The survey questions are vague and could have been equally used to justify not changing old curriculum. The questions were massaged to be vague and to encourage positive answers, there was no way to respond to the actual curriculum changes. Here are a couple of the questions as examples:

    • “It is important that my child learn about expected changes during puberty before their bodies begin to change”?
    • “I believe that the school should teach my child about both the risks of sexual activities and about ways to make safe and healthy choices regarding their sexual health.”

The public consultation by most accounts was done to 'tick the box' on public consultation, of the 4000 invitations it's believed less than half were actually delivered to a parent. It had too little and too vague a response to have an impact on the initiative.

At the end of the day this was another Liberal/Wynne agenda item -- not something in her mandate. That's why Doug was able to take her out.

    So...

If CEO got fired.. He would have got 10.7 mil severance.
CEO retires... He gets 10.7 mil in stock options he would have lost if he was fired.
Retiring.. He also gets a pension... 160K+- year.

Hiring a competent leader requires a crystal ball. Anyone can show short term improvements. Just stop maintaining things and bail out just before all the vehicles grind to a halt for lack of oil changes. Then move on to a new company using your recent profit track record.
