Back Protector or Full Vest?

Trying to decide between buying a new back protector or a full vest for under the suit.
Never owned a full vest before but since a friend of mine crushed his chest at a relatively low speed collision with a car, it got me thinking that maybe a back protector just isnt enough.

So far my search has brought me to this which seems to be a slim profile and less restrictive. But thats just from others reviews.

Any tips/advice on the pro/cons and also which brand/model to buy is appreciated.

Thanks

I have a Knox back protector with a vest. There's no CE rating for the front, just some denser foam in the upper chest area. Never actually tested it for protection, thankfully. I like the vest because it fits nicer, stays in place better when putting leathers on and off, and stays in place when street riding with a textile jacket.

Yeah the Alpinestar also has foams for the chest but you can replace it with inserts which they sell separately (of course) lol

Do you know which is the model of your Knox so i can google it?

Thanks

It was a previous generation of this vest. Velcro waste straps look a little different.

Got it from Speedworx, but there's a similar thread in the track section and someone says Fawaz doesn't sell them any more.

Man, I hope that's a typo, or I just quit riding.

The knoxx stuff is really hard to come by now. I don't think you can buy it anymore new here???? I sold my Knoxx back protector a while back and had about 4 inquiries within a few hours which really surprised me. The person who purchased it already had one, and wanted a backup one . I guess they are hard to find in Canada now?? I really liked it.

I had a Knox back protector, and bought a chest protector that attaches to it.

This is them:

Thanks guys. The Knox combo looks good! Im gonna look into it. See if i can order one from state side.

But im also really interested in the vest options. Wondering if anyone here has had any experience with tha Alpinestar Track vest 2. Comes with CE level 2 the back protector and compressed foam for chest but those can be replaced with nucleon CE level chest protector which you have to buy separately.
The vest seems like an easier fit but i wonder if you lose a lot of protection on the front!

I just bought the forcefield pro l2 evo. You can add the front if you wish just like a couple of the a* bp's and the vest. When I was talking to some people they said they liked the ability to just unzip suit and cool off. With the vest you have to unzip suit and then take off vest to cool off. I don't think the foam does anything but fill space in the suit and create more heat with less breathability. I almost bought the a* kr1 or the a* vest 2.

Good point about the heat. Specially after riding this weekend in full leather and sweating through my eyes, it's definitely something to keep in mind!

I run an Icon "Field Armour Stryker" combo that seems well made and which fits well under my jacket. The back protector part is EN1621-2:2014. Not certain if the chest protector offers any significant protection against running into the back of a dump truck at speed but it would offer decent protection against objects thrown up from the road in front of you.

Gotta say that the Forcefield EX-K Harness Flite is pretty compelling-looking though...
