The world looks different if you look through a telescope. The perspective is radically different depending on which end of the telescope you look through.

A number of years back there was a problem with truck wheels coming off and endangering and in some cases killing car drivers. A few people (Truckers) were endangering a lot of people (Car drivers). The government reacted with a big hammer.

Looking through the lens the other way, a lot of people (Car drivers) are endangering a few people (Motorcyclists) and the government isn't going to do squat. Face the facts and ride accordingly.
 
Too true. I've had the benefit (curse?)of many years both as a rider and a truck driver as well as a commercial instructor. They used to teach people the defensive tactics as a primary tool for your own well being, definitely did not teach how to throw your hands up and be a victim. Virtually every incident/accident/ is very easily mitigated by defensive habits. Even a left-turning car in front of a motorcycle is a very survivable incident if the right riding protocols are followed.
