2015 cbr300 crankshaft upgrade?

Is this an actual upgrade? or, his way of saying it was broken and now it's fixed?

I suspect they mean recall. I have never heard of a factory crankshaft upgrade.

Nope, the 300R motor is just a beefed up 250 motor, one of the parts they changed were crankshaft bearing retainers, and they will come loose and destroy the engine eventually. The recall (October 2016 IIRC) just replaces those retainers. My 300R blew up at 19000, Honda replaced the whole motor and rebuild the trans free of charge, I rode that bike till 35000 without any other issues. I wouldn't let it effect your choice, great bike!

recall- I believe this is for 15 and 16 model years. call honda canada with the vin and they will tell you if the bike is affected, and if it has been repaired or not.
