Suffering from a little seller's remorse :(

There's a way around the 6 month lapse...........rent for 1 day, and pay for insurance.
This info is 1 week old, from a retired insurance company underwriter.
This is good info. Any idea if dirtbike insurance counts as "consecutive uninterrupted motorcycle insurance"? ... as dirtbikes don't have liability for the road? If they do count as motorcycle insurance, it's another good strategy to use as it's quite cheap to insure a green plated dirtbike.

Taking it further, does fire and theft cover "consecutive uninterrupted motorcycle insurance"... or does it have to be insured with liability? This would help a rider who's toying with the idea of getting out of the sport by storing the bike while making the decision.

If yes and yes then fire and theft on a dirtbike would be an excellent strategy as it would be ~ $50 / year.

Pretty sure renting won't help...as the insurance isn't in your name, it's in the business owners name.

You need liability to take it on the road.

Insurance companies are assuming if you have road coverage, you are riding and keeping your skills fresh.
If you don't have road coverage, you are not riding. Therefore all your riding skills just disappear because you are not practicing.

Your skills could be kept plenty fresh on a green plated / fully insured motocross, even developed moreso than street riding.

I'm just looking for an answer from any insurance specialists on here as it's all in the fine print with insurance companies.

The question: "will insuring a green plated motocross nullify any lag in your consistent and uninterrupted motorcycle insurance?"

He told me: 1 day of full coverage on a rental eliminates the surcharge for lapsed time.
For motorcycles, and autos.

Should've had it in the garage with theft. Nothing wrong with that.

An insurance buddy said to get listed on a friend's bike as a part time rider. Then you have continuous coverage. The friend doesn't have to let you ride the bike. If it results in a rate increase because of your record or stats you should be prepared to pony up.

I've never tried it because I've always had a bike. Friends not so much.:(

Sucks mimico, my bike has been rotting in my backyard shed since june last year and the reason... a fast car that also rips corners and even doing couple track days this year. Never looked back insurance cancelled who cares lots of time to MAYBE ride again. Enjoy your child minimize your familys risks and once little pollock is older get back into it. I stopped riding for 18 years while my kids were young and then got back into riding 6 years ago and now it looks like a second break from riding. Riding in the gta is way over rated crappy roads..crazy insurance.. numb head drivers...and this year the popo has a steely in their pants for the motos so really ya wont miss much.

I have no idea how it feels to be bikeless or what to do with your time. This is my 21st season riding. Mileage goes up/down year to year as sometimes life gets in the way, but the desire has never changed. If it does some time down the road I'll have to look this thread up to see what people suggest.

I vote Grom. Lots of fun to buzz around on and insurance should only be $200/yr-ish.

Had a baby a year ago and my riding went from 10-15k/season down to 3! LoL

While I hear this excuse all the time - I still don't get it. Did you have the baby, or your wife?? I can understand breast feeding, baby and riding don't work well for ladies, but what difference does it make for us? You still need to run to the store to get diapers, formula, cough syrup etc, so why not take the bike? Any reason to ride is good. You can be a great dad and still own/ride the bike. Poor babies always get the blame, and they can't even defend themselves. ;)

Time, money, risk, errands/chores

You lose some of those, while gaining others

LoL you're right...I'm going to put my foot down and tell my wife to deal with it! Mind you she was the one that told me not to sell it and was pretty ****** when I did....

Trying to see if my cousin sells me back my 250 for a good price so may keep a fun city bike around.

how much did you sell your 500 for if you dont mind me asking?

$3500 as is with 20,200km on it. Included a cover, AirHawk seat, and the Givi rack (not the bags).

Pretty good deal

GTAM members usually know how to price their bikes to sell

Stay strong, one day you will get back on the saddle

I’m sure I could’ve gotten a few hundred more but really a willing/actual buyer is worth it sometimes. No point holding out as bikes with half the mileage were listing for 4300-4800$ at the time.

honestly I’m getting back into the mood already but to buy a toy. Thinking Grom just to boot around but pricing isn’t far off new at the moment. Maybe a Ruckus or other scoot just for kicks.

Nothing like a 250 dual sport for getting around the city and beats the hell out of cottage country backroads.

I remember when I had my children my annual mileage went from 8k+/yr to 2-2.5k/yr for about 3yrs. Last year my mileage jumped back to a little over 6k. Once they get passed the new born stage and you settle into a routine with your SO, it is a lot easier to sneak out for a day ride here and there.

Nothing wrong with grabbing a small bike to keep your insurance valid and ride it when you can. If you only ride 2k/yr, who cares? At the price of a 125cc or a 250cc plus insurance you're not out a lot of money. You have to factor in that if you go 5yrs without motorcycle insurance many companies will rate you as a new rider again when you come back to riding, even if you've kept a valid M license. Lots of CBR 125's or CBR 250's/Ninja 250's available for cheap. Or, if you want something a little more comfortable for stop/go city riding take a look at a Suzuki TU250x. You can mount a luggage rack or top box (my personal choice) and run errands etc on it and take a longer ride if time allows.

If it had been me, I'd have kept the 500f. If I were to insure that bike I'd probably be looking at like $250/yr. That's pretty cheap riding even if I only got out for a few thousand k per year.
