New rider....

Here is some stuff i practice in parking lot/ industrial lot.
1. emergency braking, emergency manoeuvre to the left/right.
2. put a cone/anything in middle of the lot and make a perfect circle without taking your eyes off the cone, go left go right.
3 make a figure eight.
4 from a full stop accelerate to the right than practice to going left.
5. go straight slow down and and slowly power through the turn, left and turn right without riding the clutch.
these are things i practice, i am sure there is more.
just remember you don't need to go fast to practice these "stuff"
You can get as messed up and have a real messed up day in a parking lot just as on the road.

Also as mentioned above do not try to keep up with other rider. later

i find the m1 exit motorcycle course in ontario to be woefully lacking and it did not instill any confidence at all in terms of real road riding.

if you live in toronto and DONT drive, i'd advise you to drive a normal car for a year or so to get accustomed to the road first. i cannot imagine hopping onto a sports bike and riding around the GTA if you're not used to at least one of these first.

something that really helped me was having a more experienced rider with me and following them around town first.
