Can you sell your motorcycle to a dealer for cash ?

As you've learned, it's not just GP Bikes who deal this way. All dealers do.

You make money by buying cheap as it's the only price you actually have complete control over. It works for private sales too especially for collectible items (although with less spread as the private entity doesn't have to cover overhead and carrying costs).

That seems pretty reasonable.

Selling a used vehicle is perhaps one of the most painful things in the world. You can undercut the cheapest bike and still have lowballers offering a partially chewed piece of gum in trade.

For a dealer it is reasonable, but not worth it for me. I'm sure I can get a lot more selling it privately and im in no rush to sell. The condition of the bike is absolutely mint. Even some of the dealers commented on it. Some of them were so eager to buy it, they messaged me while on vacation.

Easily selling a bike has little to do with it's condition, more to do with all the dirt bags looking for one.

Sometimes you get lucky and find the right buyer, gives you a reasonable offer with no headache, but that's rare.

How much do you realistically figure you could sell it for? I would think around $5k would be the market value.

I tried to sell once before end of last season due to some financial issues, then changed my mind. At the time I was easily getting 5.5k from serious buyers.

$1500 is better in your pocket than a dealer's.

I agree, but then I think about the headaches I've had selling vehicles. If I buy my next bike at a dealer, and they offer me $1500 below market price on a trade (equals $1300 after tax savings), it's theirs.

Agreed. Some dealer in the GTA had the ugly 09 model of the same bike with 20k km listed at 5k few months ago.

Best part about this bike is that it's cheap to insure even for new riders. This was my first bike in Canada after getting my M. So demand is high for it. And the color makes it unique. I had to go all the way to Sudbury to procure one.

There seems to be a significant difference between trading it in and selling for cash.

That's true. Around 5.5k is the expectation.

What year is your er6n? I've seen guys asking $5500 for one and it's on Kijiji for 1.5 years. The new generation is lighter, faster and is only 1500 more new. I think your expectations are high personally but good luck with the sale.
Just for an example.

Hey @Iceman, It's a 2014. Is that the lighter model? Looks like the bike is discontinued. I only see the 2016 model on kawasaki.ca. I saw both those ads. Let's see what kind of response I get.

What year was the er6n that's been on sale for 1.5 years at 5.5k?

Every single used vehicle I've sold has been worth the effort. The lowballers are annoying but do not take up much of your time. Really, the hardest part about it is making sure the buyer isn't paying you with monopoly money

It's was a 2014 in blue. On second thought your bike falls in between the two examples I posted, your asking price is likely not a bad starting point, it leaves wiggle room to negotiate. If you price it too reasonably, people will think you want to give it away.

Personally I'd edit your posts where you mention what dealers were willing to give you. If you advertise it yourself potential buyers may see those posts and try to use them against you to get the price down and second if I was the dealer that made you that offer I wouldn't be interested in buying it after you've posted the price on the internet.

The dealer price is already on the internet on CBB trader. Anyone could look that up for free.

Dealer is wholesale price anyway. Can't go by that. And no way I'll be selling it to a dealer anyway.

Edited anyway. Thanks!
