Crossing the border with temporary US plates

Side q. If I were to buy a vehicle in Canada, call my insurance and put it under my policy, could I put my old plates with valid sticker to drive it home? Pretty sure the answer is no...

It would be a problem if you were asked for the ownership for some reason.
You wouldn't have a valid ownership for the bike you were actually riding.

A moot point as I was bringing a bike back in a trailer but the previous owner in Michigan didn't make me transfer the ownership down there so I wouldn't have to pay double taxes.

I had called my insurer and given them the serial number and the bike was insured. They didn't where the bike was being purchased and I didn't tell.

I feel that it could have been legal but if pulled over on either side of the border it could have looked fishy enough to slow down the progress of life.
