CAD to USD cash

I am with TD and when I need US cash last, the teller told me Id get a better rate if I opened a US funds account. So she opened one for me, did the exchange at the better rate, and told me to close the account after so I didn't have to pay any monthly fees for the account ....Nice!

I am sure there are better rates outside of the average bank, but I just didn't want to spend time driving around for a small percentage. Was not $5000 like your case

Global Currency usually has good rates

They definitely have better rates than TD. Thanks. In case I did not need the money TD buy back rate would have been terrible. I might sober up and realize a US C5 allroad is a terrible idea.

A few years ago I got a really good rate at a casino. Next time I tried it it they refused to do it without playing.

I use Continental Currency Exchange, its better than any bank rate, they have to be or they wouldn't exist.

Pm me & I might be able to refer you to a business

As the amount of currency goes up, it can be advantageous to take the longer route to a better rate.

I used to use a guy in Woodbridge which was convenient as he would do cash to cash transactions, but he was mobbed up and got caught so that business is closed.

In the past I used HiFX but that involves an international wire (normally to New Zealand). Their parent company bought XE a few years ago so now I use them. You have to put money in their canadian account and they put foreign currency where you want it. I am not sure how to get cash out of XE as I have never needed cash in sufficient quantity to justify the expense/effort. Using HiFX/XE saves me hundreds on a $10,000 transaction. On $1,000 it is probably close to break even on bank rates.

I own a house in the US, have a TD US visa and a TD US bank account and move thousands a yr paying bills. I've researched them all and use Continental currency.
Its not the mob and you dont meet in some wu tang clan basement with a lunch bag.

in my experience always change CDN to US in Canada, walking into the National Bank of AZ with Canadian the first half of the conversation is yes its real money.....

Its true.
I once gave a waitress in a bar in a small Michigan town a toonie as a tip.
Took about 10 min to convince her that yes it's real, yes we have $2 in coins, and no she did not have to spend it only in Canada.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I needed the money asap so I went with the ones that are quick and dont require a set-up.

Rates right now
Continental: 1.272
Exchange house at yonge and college: 1.266

I went with continental since it's quick, takes debit, and local.

I once offered a US border officer CAD$. He said we don't take that monopoly money.
