Dunlop vs Metzler Tires

This thread interests me. I have a 2012 HD Electra Glide and the tires need to be replaced for this season. I am temped to replace them with the stock tires (Dunlops) as I am a new rider and don't want to switch things up too much. The only concern is rain.

wondering if those are the original tires?
not likely on a '12
but possible if the kms are low
if that's the case, they need to go regardless of tread life
last 2 new bikes I bought had Dunlops from new
that I could not wait to get rid of

Further details as you haven't explained why?

why I needed to ditch the Dunlops?

Japanese manufacturers tend to put them on the bikes as they are cheap
the 2 bikes I have had them on - both Yamahas, they were just awful
single compound construction so the rear flat spots
terrible in the rain
non-confidence inspiring for spirited riding

but if you're question is why 6 year old tires need to go?
don't think that is your question ?

All the major tire manufacturers make Harley specific tires, its important to stay with their recommendations.
If you don't, mileage is significantly shorter.

Are they really that bad in the rain? What happens.
I haven't noticed any flat spots in my tires, wonder if the HD version is a little different

Yes correct it is not a question about my tires. I know my 6 year old tires, or my tires in general need to go. There is no tread left.

Clarify please. Gas mileage or Tire mileage.
Meh my gas mileage still suffers from my bad shifting, was getting better at it. But city driving kinda killed it too. :p

we ride very different bikes @sburns

I get into some spirited riding on my ST bike
the rear getting flat spotted causes a nasty transition in and out of corners
I need to have 2CT tires for this reason as it's a mix of slabbing and twisties
even before the flat spot, wet traction and feel were bad on both sets of stock Dunplops

pretty sure the Dunlops for HD's would be considerably different
and maybe of better quality than the cheapies the Japanese manus put on

Tire mileage I believe. HD specifies a very stiff sidewall/carcass. I'm guessing because the bikes are so heavy ?
I know you can put their spec. tires on other cruisers but not vice/versa.
