Apple, the new VW

What gets my goat with Apple, is the commercial where the daughter is so stupid, she doesn’t know what a computer is. Not sure if it could be called sexist, racist or ageist, but kids are clearly not that stupid.
Lol so true and such a stupid commercial.

Maybe you didn't invest in a good laptop. My windows 10 works super fast in my spectre HP laptop. Or stop watching porn on it :)

I did, I have 2 Apple laptops and they work great!

Hardware speed is not the issue with Windows 10 it is getting around that terrible awkward interface, again which they are slowly turning back to a proper desktop interface. Maybe someday they will allow users to fully schedule updates instead of being force upon it. When you do live events it is very annoying to have to restart for an update, or have a cortana pop up, or other dumb messages.

Glad you can enjoy your porn with Windows 10, but us professionals needs something more manageable.

I am not forced any updates, I think the forcing of updates is related to the actual laptop model/make.

My personal HP Laptop does not push any updates, it tells me there is one and allows me to schedule it, run it or ignore it.

I have a work laptop which I use for Demos only and it is a Lenovo, that one forces the updates as soon as I reboot, super annoying.

My daughter showed me her new Iphone yesterday. Her old one was slowing and needed a new battery. She bought the new one 3 days before the news broke.

On a spree she also bought me a new laptop and herself a pad.

Our land line costs $45 a month and I can replace the phone (If it ever dies) for $10 at any flea market.

The price of being free to roam.

Holy crap 45 a month for a landline, mine costs 40 a year and includes long distance. You need to do some shopping you can easily get that for 15 a month you are wasting over 300 a year could buy a new iPhone every few years for that.

I think it was a play on how the current generation of kids are growing up using smartphones as their primary electronics device - the era of there being a family computer is weird to some, the same as how the era of a physical corded phone attached to the wall being the only way to contact others (IE, pre millennial kids) is weird to them as well.

as usual, the market specss. Samsung profits went up 50% after the Note 7 issue. The Note 8 was released, and the reviews are glowing.

How are those Note 8's looking? Just don't let them go dead. No problem.

by the way, in case you were wondering....

We do not reduce CPU performance through software updates over the lifecycles of the phone.

Samsung doesn't need to make any effort to slow them down, they do that all on their own

Agreed.

Transferred landline from Bell to FreePhoneLine about six or seven years ago. Cost $50 initial setup, plus $50 for a voip adapter. Haven't had to touch it or put a dollar into it since.

What's a land line?

Looked like a touch tablet and not a phone to me.

Sorry, should have said "Party line" for you.

Now we are all showing our ages if we know what a party line is. When I cleaned out my gran's cabin at the lake I found an old bill from the mid 60s. Party line cost $4.80 for the month plus $1.25 for the extension down in the boat house.

$6 home phone, I figure that's about $45-50 now. At least Ma Bell is consistent!

I still remember my mom was a busybody and would sometimes shush the whole house so she could quietly pickup the phone and listen into the other parties calls. :D

Anyhow, we switched to a VoIP service (Primus Talkbroadband) about 13-14 years back when it first became a thing. At the time we were paying Bell $60/month for next to nothing for traditional phone service so the $25/month for unlimited everything on the Primus service seemed like a steal. Over the years I stepped down to the $15/month service with everything except the long distance (we get that for free on our cells now), and even at $15/month I know we could find cheaper...but it's one of those things where "It's not broken, so I don't want to fix it". Even the original hardware just keeps ticking along...

The big thing is that it has a telemarketer block feature that I know we'd miss the second it's gone when the phone starts ringing off the hook, so that's worth some extra $$ to me.

Every now and then I do wonder why we keep the house line at all anymore though as we rarely use it.... I guess it's partly sentimental now as it's a phone number I've had for close to 30 years.

Actually I DO have one of those!
and a rotary dial phone on it :) but I recently disconnected it and will probably have to hook it back up to the new house for internet.

... when I first started dating my girlfriend (now wife) she had a party line and one of those old wooden phones on the wall with a crank on the side of it, and I kinda wish I was kidding about that.
