PA Lift Cart to MC Lift

I'm in the market for a 1,000 lb capacity lift for my ST and I check out the PA site on a regular basis for this item to be on sale https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/1-000-lb-hydraulic-pneumatic-motorcycle-lift/A-p8667784e

Saw this lift cart on sale for $200 and with a few modifications ( extended table and maybe stabilizing legs) it could easily be converted to a MC lift if your bike is > 500lbs. https://www.princessauto.com/en/search?Dy=1&Nty=1&Ntt=lift+cart

There is a 1,000 lb lift on sale for $400 but the platform is only 9" wide vs. the 27" wide one I'd prefer. https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/1-000-lb-hydraulic-pneumatic-motorcycle-lift/A-p8708299e

Keep an eye on Harbor Frieght's website.
Once in a while they put their 1000lb lift table on sale for under $300USD.
'Bought one last year... Even with the exchange rate and drive to Niagara Falls to pick it up it was worthwhile.
Lifts my 660lb FJR1300 easily..

Everything on the lift cart is designed for the load and specific use. Being MIC I wouldn't give much consideration to added safety factors. Also no ramp, hold downs, chocks etc. You could end up replacing every piece of the thing or risk having a bike drop on you.

To me having a table extended to wider than the wheel base or track width is asking for trouble.

Go to PA and ask them when the right thing is going on sale. Tell them it's because you don't want to go to Harbor Freight if you can get the same thing locally by waiting a bit.

Yes, they were on sale for $280 last week. Problem for me is that I have a mid size SUV and I could drive home from the local PA with the rear hatch open for the 20 km trip. I'm not going to do that for a trip back from HF in the NF area.

If anyone has a van or pickup and is going down to HF to pick up a lift on sale I'd gladly tag along and pay for a tank of gas.

Assuming you were in the US for less than 48h did you get hit with taxes and/or customs duties by CBSA?

I got lucky that trip... Or it was a case of professional courtesy...
I had only been in the US for an hour... Declared the purchase and after a brief conversation about the lift and what a deal it was I was sent on my way.
Of course other times I've crossed to pick up a $35 part and was sent inside to pay the taxes...

It's hit and miss with the CBSA.

*Keep in mind that the crate the lift comes in is close to 8' long and weighs about 300 pounds. (HD staff used a forklift to load it into my truck) 'Something to factor in when deciding if your vehicle is appropriate for pickup.
I drive an F150 4x4 with a 6.5" box so... No problem.
I had to leave the tailgate down, but the crate is so heavy... it wasnt going anywhere...

Seriously? "The crate was so heavy it wasn't going anywhere". That is called an unsecured load.
One of my biggest peeves is people who throw things in the back of a truck without tying it down because "it'll stay".

Yeah big rig drivers do that all the time, the load is so heavy it isn't going to shift.. LMAO You got VERY lucky is all.

Like Hack says, the wooden crate it is big and heavy. I bought mine from a PA around 40km away, so I rented a Uhaul van and consolidated a bunch of other larger moving jobs into the one trip to make it worth my while. Getting one from Harbour Freight is a good idea - just more time, gas etc...

That third link you posted looks great for lifting bikes in general, but the standard wider platform is so handy for keeping tools on it, laying out all the smaller screws and bits as you taken them off and having a wide space to catch any spills. I would also think the wider platform is better for strapping the bikes down or maybe even jacking the front up when needed. I'd say wait til you can get the one you want, than compromising on something you don't want.
I got lucky and scored one for around $400+tax last winter. In the one year alone this thing has paid for itself by having a comfy space where I can learn to do the stuff myself instead of paying for someone else to do it. I don't know how people do this stuff lying down on cold, dirty concrete floors.

HF..decent lift but foot pumping sucks..buy the air operated one..u will thank me later. I use the PA unit..trouble free for 3 yrs now..had to replace the wheel chock with a decent one but thats it.

Really? Like 30 or so pumps and the bike is at full lift. It's so easy I could do it with my hand.

That HF one posted is a good deal!

Pardon me... I did employ two ratchet straps.
'Should have mentioned it I guess... 'Sorry for causing you such panic.

Well... it takes about 50 pumps, but if you alternate legs every 10 pumps or so and take a break... It's manageable.
Even for an old guy like me

Yeah, sorry about that. I got caught up in the spirit of "jump on anything without really thinking".
Forum life will do that to you if you're not careful...
