Good time to pick up layers for riding. I bought my first Nike technical shirt about 15 years ago for $50 and it's still in excellent shape, dries very fast and the perfect layer at your skin.

These are lovely and 2 for $22 !!! This Cool/Dri fabric is excellent for touring as it avoids the risks of cotton, easy to wash and dry and packs small

The Hanes Cool DRI t-shirt for men is a polyester performance tee that actually performs. Moisture-wicking technology keeps you cool and comfortable while a 50+ ultraviolet protection factor rating keeps you safe from harmful UV rays.

This is not motorcycle related but a very useful technology. It's very embedded in my daily life from music to audio books to asking the time or the weather. If you have Amazon Prime it's a no brainer.

Wait just a minute. It’s Tuesday, not Friday!

It all starts Friday. I think they have been trying to lure people in early.

Constantly scanning the horizon for a cheap TV that isn't garbage

You have two paths ( I've been in the hiDef/4k since the 80s. )

Wait for OLED to come down and blow your mind.

Snag a TCL when they arrive in Canada.

$350 US and I'm astonished ....as the reviewers have been.

What ever you do - don't spend on name brand upmarket LED Smart 4k ...the category is dead.
And whatever you do - don't buy HD.....done, gone buried,

For certain use cases it's worth ponying up more (eg. I want a 4K 40-43" TV to use a a secondary monitor and TCL's are not the best in that application). For anyone else looking for something similar, Sony KDX720E seems to be the winner but it is MSRP everywhere, I haven't seen any stores touch it for black friday. The TCL S405 seems amazing for the price, but when I am looking at something hours a day, price matters less.

Beleive me it's excellent for that use ...I'm looking at it now and I use it 18 hours a day as well.
It's your money but you would be very foolish to spend on a non-OLED. Either pony up for the OLED or stay under $500
TCL is upending the 4k smart field .... one review even said it was the best they reviewed of all but the OLED ....it's weakness is off axis and you or I don't care about that.

BTW historically SONY has good tech and lousy long term reliability unless you are buying their pro gear.
Panasonic has good tech and incredible longevity.

The banding here is just a camera artifact

I was going for the 43" but it was $10 more for the 49" and that's a bit nicer for movies and TV ....I just slide it a tad closer ( 6" ) for extensive computer work.

Price is NOT an indicator just now....LED has matured and is dead. Either get OLED now or go inexpensive and good. WIth FALD technology and some tweaking the blacks are incredibly good. I use ACES CG Linear for colour setting on the computer and we sorted a tweak for the TV output we are happy with.

Top candidate for me right now is a $400 50" HD (Smart the brand, not smart the buzzword) from Superstore. It's for the folks, they don't have 4K content or 4K eyeballs. Would prefer a good HD TV over a bad 4K TV, but it seems like they barely even make HD panels anymore

OK, I believe you. It's on the list of acceptable models now. It does suck that they don't have it in Canada yet. By the time I pay exchange, I am only saving a few hundred dollars (assuming I have to pay full price for the Sony) and have to drive to the US to get it (with the associated warranty nightmare if something goes wrong). If I could get it in Canada for roughly the currency corrected US price, my order would be in.

I'm that worried by TV's dying early (as long as they last a reasonable timeframe like 5+ years). In 5 years, there is a giant leap in performance. I currently have a Vizio (VF552XVT) that has mediocre performance, but I am not going to throw it out and buy a new one, I need it to die first. At MSRP, it was roughly equivalent to OLED pricing today (bought I bought it as a prior model year for <<$1000). Normally I stay 1 step behind the curve because as you already know, todays $2000 technology is tomorrows $400 technology.

It will be coming to Canada. We import Mac gear so it's easy for us. I have a $5000 gorgeous 720p

works perfectly, winner of the CES best in show award.. Still figuring what to do with it ....it's the equivalent of a $99 monitor sigh.

I was going to wait for the OLED but at $400 for what is a really good LED 4k Smart....too good to resist.

Y'know this hits a lot of buttons for you

Don't do it. ANY 4k is better than any 1080p and they upscale well. ANY 4k is very good now ....there are no bad ones ...there are only over priced ones.

10' away you need a bigger screen.

Here is the calculator
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship

Most sit too far away ....any 4k screen is fine even at 1 meter the detail is so good.

Fair enough, my question was actually geared more towards how quickly the picture degrades on the TLC P series when viewing from off center (ie say the ends of my couch).

I guess the easiest answer is not enough to justify a more expensive LED 4k and no degradation at all with an OLED ....and OLED will blow your mind...period full stop.

when 4K took over the consumer TV market, it changed one thing that I don't like
a few years a go you could spend a grand and get a pretty decent 1080 smart TV in the 50" size

when they all switched to 4K panels, that entry level TV became a POS for sports viewing
in order to keep the price down they cheaped on the GPU, particularly refresh rate
the entry level 4K units have a 60hz refresh rate and try to smooth things out with a software fix
works okay on movies and TV shows, fails miserably for sports viewing

now in order to get a 4K TV with a refresh rate that can keep up with action, 120 hz minimum
you have to spend a lot more than $1000

I've been holding out to get an OLED because, yes quite frankly they are stunning, but I'm cheap and $2k+ for a TV is not really my comfort zone quite frankly. If these TCLs come north of the border anytime soon I might pick one up to satisfy my desire for a bigger TV while I wait for the OLEDs to drop in price.

Exactly ....personally I think there is little risk in just ordering one with the 3 year added warranty ....they WILL come to Canada.
