Did some MX riding yesterday

I took a four hour course. It was fun, but exhausting. Apparently, some of us old people don’t bounce as well as we used to. If you ride like that my hats off to you. I can’t stand on the pegs that long. We were at Sand Del Lee.

It gets easier the more you do it. Personally I don't do full mx tracks anymore as I tend to keep getting hurt. But I still ride like hell in the woods.

Pro MX riders are one of the fittest athletes in the world...the races are long ( compared to downhill ski racing ) and requires both strength and flexibility.

Good fun to go to Chatsworth an watch a Pro race....even watching the hotdogs do big air.

But I still ride like hell in the woods.

Woods have trees....I would think they hurt a bit more than dirt ;)

I'm much more tired after riding singletrack compared to mx course. Friday I did 4hrs in the Ganny on filthy rooted singletrack with my crazy vet-class neighbour who is retired and does nothing but ride his dirtbike 12mo a year between here and Arizona.
I've been hurting bad every day since that ride.

Yeah, I can believe that. The bruise finally came up where it felt like someone hit me with a hammer, and the back is still sore on the opposite side. I definitely want to do it again. I just don't want to fall.

It really does help to prep, mainly the legs in the off-season ... I know, duh, eh? But I consider myself fairly-in-shape ... yet riding trails this year vs last year, feels kike night and day, as far as the level of discomfort in days after riding. It does take time, but I guess there's no free lunch ...

Don't kid yourself that the trials will be a walk in park ... no seat, so if you are hopping on it for 30mins, pulling wheelies etc. .... you will feel it big time in days after, if your legs and core are weak to start. Good mobility helps greatly as well. Yes, risk of hurting yourself badly is lower, unless you attempt some moves you should not ... :)

Some of the trials bikes do have seats tho the trend is away these days. Really helps with throttle control, balance and low speed manuevers ....

The neat thing with trials bike is you can have fun pretty much all year in a very small area.

This guy is a tad over the top.

This is a combo - part trials part motocross

I've been on sport bikes for 10 years and finally also got into dirt bikes this year. Enduro trails, not motocross. I find MX too injury-prone. Having a blast riding in the woods, there's no rules, you can go balls-out as much as your skill and courage will allow you. I wish I found out about this when I was much younger, I would have saved a lot of money wasted on modifying cars, etc.

May as well share some videos with you all:

MX is where it's at. It's great exercise, a rush and the better you get the more fun it becomes. My street bikes I could do without but there will always be a dirt bike in my garage.

I kind of arrived to this conclusion this year. It's funny how within a year (to me a really short time; I would have thought it would be a long drawn out withdrawal) I readily gave up the road without any second guessing whatsoever. I guess a reflection of living in GTA or Ontario ... :-(

Yep, but those are more like hybrids .. kind of compromise on both ends, but I can see how they would be OK for ton of weekend warriors.

Bruised forearm from getting thrown over the bars on a rooted uphill. Back of knees cut from new knee pads digging in. Baboon butt from being all over the seat. And yet I'm really wanting a new Husky smoker.

Those bikes are NOT competition trials bikes. They don't have seats for a good reason.

I haven’t been able to ride dirt much over the last few years and I didn’t get to ride at all last season. I’ve been out 4-5 times this fall and I forgot how much I missed it. I can ride for about 2hrs at a semi decent pace on the single track but then I’m tired. A 4hr day is about my max but that’s with frequent breaks and some fire road rests. A bit sore the next day but that’s just from not being bike fit.

Thinking of doing a few harescrambles next year so the old 04 RM 250 will be getting some love this winter as it’s stock aside from brush guards and reeds/cage.
