I wear the UA 2.0 Baselayer thermals for both riding & skiing and I swear by them.

The 3.0 may be warmer in some circumstances, and I may actually pick up a pair of the pants for skiing. The 4.0 is overkill; expedition grade!

I also have a pair of Bristol leather pants (NOT chaps)

I'm gonna create another one now. lol

I like the merino stuff from MEC. But I never have a problem with base layers. It's my hands that get cold. Rest of me is good to below zero with my normal riding gear with a ski jacket thrown over top.
