City motorcyclist critically injured in crash
Wednesday, August 16, 2017 11:48:36 EDT AM
LYNDEN – A Brantford motorcyclist is recovering in hospital from serious injuries suffered when his motor bike collided with a car east of the city.
A 41-year-old man on a 2012 Triumph motorcycle was northbound on Lynden Road near Powerline Road West in Lynden on Tuesday shortly after 8:30 a.m. At the same time, a Hamilton man was eastbound on Powerline in a 2017 BMW and stopped at the intersection, Hamilton police said.
The BMW driver continued to cross over Lynden Road when he was struck in the passenger side by the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was ejected and suffered life-threatening injuries, but later was downgraded to critical but stable condition, police said.
The other driver was not injured.
The identities of the two drivers are not being released until their families have been notified. Both vehicles have been towed for mechanical examination.
At this time speed and alcohol are not considered to be contributing factors in the collision, police said. Charges are still pending.
A collision reconstruction unit continues to investigate. Any witnesses who have not spoken to police are asked to call Det. Const. Niblock at 905-546-4753.

No stop sign for the bike and decent sight lines. Assuming the Triumph was going a reasonable speed, there is no excuse for this. No mention of age of BMW driver. GWS Rider.

I've had two crashes, fortunately in cages, where drivers thought if they floored it after a quick stop they would be through the intersection ahead of my arrival. In one case snow and the other gravel slowed their acceleration. The 2014 street view shows crappy paving.

Regardless, GWS rider.
