and sometimes we're lucky....
Yes. this is what it often comes down to if you choose to ride on the public roadway ...... pure luck; not skill but luck! Skill can only help in some situations.
and sometimes we're lucky....
What he said. If you're not committed to riding then lay off for a while. In time you'll know what to do.You already own the bike. Put it away for now, deal with your grief and confusion. Make this decision after some time has passed and everyone's emotions aren't so amped up.
Making big decisions in the aftermath of a personal tragedy isn't the best course of action. Take a little time and the answer will come to you.

Yeah man I completely feel you on that. I'm just going to keep it in storage for now until next season (sucks but that's what I'm going to do) and give some time for my family to cool down. I so want to keep on riding I love it. It's a passion of mine but in the mean time not for now. Good luck with everything on your end man and update if anything happens or you when you make a decision ride safe.I'm very sorry about your loss OP....I cannot fathom how it feels to lose someone close. The only positive is that he was able to ride so late into his life.
im also going through a decision process having had a son 5 months ago. I love riding, but I feel guilty every day when I take the bike to work because I know what could happen. Playing with fire on the soul crusher we love as the 401....
thinking of giving up the bike for a while, because the only time I have to ride is the work commute which isn't fun....but it's more entertaining than the car, and way faster and cheaper than any other form...my wife hasn't asked me to drop it, and she won't. But I know she's worried.
just need to find what to replace it with. Not sure if it's worth keeping the bike....will need to decide soon. Maybe dedicated dirt....or track...don't know.
once again, do what you feel is best for YOU. Its your life, and in the end only you make the decision, however your family lives with the consequences of our actions.

This x1000That's called a knee jerk reaction. Wait it out. Best is when you are fully indpendent. That's why I moved out when I was 19.
Ask your family if they will all sell their cars because people die in car accidents.
Being new to riding, you will experience more close calls than when you are a seasoned rider who develop a sixth sense and can better anticipate traffic flow/movement. Considering your newness to riding, it is likely better to stop (for now at least) because of family pressure but also because you have been overly sensitized, and therefore may not have the best rider reflexes to cope with a difficult situation on the road (ie. nerves).
I gave up riding for a few years because of some close calls that made me question why I rode. But in those days bikes really were invisible to cars. When I got back into it, I found that driver awareness is generally much better and so feel much safer than ever.
