I was told by a friend that supersport bikes that are 15 years or older are classified as standard bikes and i just wanted to find out if thats actually true or not

From what i have heard its 50/50, some might but don't expect a lot of them to.

Had a 25yr old supersport but it didn't have the supersport surcharge due to its age/era

Will depends on the company. Mine doesn't insure my sport bike anymore. Good thing my policy was grandfathered.

yeah it's gonna be hit and miss depending on the bike and insurance Co.

I know a guy had to get rid of an '87 Honda Hurricane 600 as it was insane to insure
a carbureted bike with mediocre brakes and 85 HP

at the time I was riding an FZ6 classed as a sport tourer and cheap to insure
it would eat that old hurricane alive

EX500/Ninja 500R are considered "sport touring" and sometimes as standards. They are not SS bikes for sure, but thought I'd toss them in here for information purposes.
