Knowing (Used) Motorcycle Pricing

I paid $3000 for my 05 with 30k kms, this was in the fall of 2015. It was fairly clean but I had to put about $1000 into it to get it to where I wanted it to be. Most of that was new tires.

The first owner took good care of the bike but the second, who owned it for 2 years, didnt ride much and didnt really put any work into the bike, so the rest was new cables as the originals had dried out, chain, sprockets, and fluid changes all around. If I were to do it again I'd get an 07 or newer in better condition and pay the 4 grand most people are asking for them.
Although, truth be told, if I really could do it over again I'd probably go with a Suzuki sv650.

Edit: As for the safety, i bought my bike in the late fall, registered it right away and didn't get it safetied or insured until the spring. I dont see anything wrong with that. I'm not going to put insurance on over the winter if i dont have to.

2009? Sport bike? Less than 5k?

Not possible...

Unless it's a 250...which will.be very vclose to that price...check out the other outrageously overpriced bikes for sale thread..

not possible? heres a 2009 FZ6R for $3750. perhaps you should reconsider your knowledge of used bike values....

checking out the outrageously over priced motorcycles for sale thread is not the way to determine a bikes value. This 2009 FZ6R was placed in the reasonably priced motorcycles for sale thread a couple days ago.

if the OP is looking for something like that, I'd strongly suggest an FZ6 over the plastic encased R version
the FZ6 was a Euro inspired do everything type of bike that did not sell weel in NA, so Yamaha wrapped it
in plastic, specced poorer brakes and suspension, changed the ergos to be more sporty and people bought them

the non-R version outperforms it in every way, and is classed as sport touring by the insurance industry,
the plastic R version is classed a sport bike

resale prices are around even

like your response. you speak of value. kijiji prices are most often a joke. people are fishing for uninformed buyers all the time. The op is approaching his buy with research and thought, an intelligent choice. Best of shopping luck to the op.

Riding position mostly, amoung other things. Technically they're sport touring. You could loosely call it a sport bike though. "Real" sport bikes are technically Supersports sooo

yamaha calls it a sport bike in their advertising.

Street-ready Sport Bike
A rider in the market for a practical 600cc bike doesn’t have to compromise performance or style to get value. The FZ6R is a great combination of performance, handling, and exciting sport bike style, but also with a low seat height that’s both adjustable to fit a wider variety of riders and also narrower where it counts to make it even easier to put both feet on the ground.

hypersport
supersport
sport

regardless, the FZ6 is the bike the op stated he is exclusively looking for. I threw up the FZ6R as an under 5 large sport bike.
you can say it isn't a sport bike but others including yamaha do call it a sport bike.

Yamaha can call it whatever they want it's just marketing.
But you missed the part where im agreeing with you.

um.. the post you responded to was my reply to hyperion?

Ohhhh I just figured out what you were trying to say.
You had my post in quotes, normally people will quote the person they are replying to.

Again thanks for all the Intel. Again I am more confused as I see this which seems like a steal:

2006 Yamaha FZ6 good condition great selling price,

Other than the higher mileage, I don't know why it's selling for $1000 less than others of similar vintage.

I have my eye on this one for several months, and wondering why it hasn't sold yet:
