Halton Police Motorcycle Event

Interesting. They cynical side of me would keep me miles away from there if I had made many modifications to my bike (eg off road only exhaust), or planned on riding like a complete retard in the GTA (pictures of helmetless riders and their associated bikes for future reference). The less cynical side of me thinks it would be a great event where the police could get to know some riders so they don't all get pooled in the "they are going to run" category.

Could be a smart bit of proactive community policing. I approached our local police force and suggested that they could run a skills course and would definitely have people sign up for that. They could make a little money and reduce the "us and them" attitude. Zero interest (at least from the guy at the top).

Could have boiled down to liability/insurance of running a course like that. The government would surely want to get involved to ensure the course lines up with the what is instructed through the handbook and already existing approved courses. They do often have similar bike-safety days with kids, but that is kids and bicycles.

Gotta remember that pretty well all police services (for sure those in GTA) or red-taped monsters.

Did I miss the bit on the poster that said "escorted lights and sirens high speed ride". No, not there? Oh well. Maybe next time.

End destination is a pub. Good to see they aren't promoting drinking and riding, Lol.

Got a laugh out of that myself, they'll probably even be giving folks breathalyzer' son the way out the door

cynical side --- they are taking photos of riders and bikes

I think California police does street racing with the community on certain nights.
It allows the "kids" to play safely, give the cops some fun...build real respect.
The "street racers" also police themselves to keep a good thing from ending.

But like already stated...we are the red-tape monsters.

Seems well meaning (no, I don't think they're gonna casually go on a speed trap tour) but I'm just thinking that putting together a normal, slow, boring ride on GTAM still experiences Shenanigans if there are enough people there. I don't mean necessarily aggressive stuff (you'd have to be mighty stupid), but things that are either the result of stacking so many bikes (e.g. people blowing intersections) or somebody rides over a banana peel and drops their bike

All joking aside when I have interacted with the Halton police the interactions have been polite and respectful.

It is a shame and disheartening I can't say the same about all police services, one in perticular whom really don't even deserve to be mentioned ....and I'll leave that right their

I remember an incident in Collingwood where police went into a bar parking lot and wiped the winter dirt off one headlight on each car. Then they waited down the road and pulled over every car with one clean headlight. If you're out for a ride on May 6th, stay away from Acton just after noon. Every bike they see could be a target.

Don't trust cops ever. If you're gums are flapping around a cop, he / she is collecting information.

I too would stay the hell away for a ride like this. First off, the posted speed limit would kill me for any kind of a ride.
Secondly, I think they will be taking information about bikes that show up. Most likely dudes that already ride at the posted speed limit.
I also would like to go on this ride just to see what roads they take. So I know what roads they know are good for biking and which roads they will be policing in the future.

The Halton police motorcycle guys know what roads are good for bikers, where the "give'r " spots are for speeders and where the handy spots are to collect tickets. Nothing new to this, for the fellows on traffic detail , its what they do for a living. They took over from the OPP about 40yrs ago around here so they have some history.

Lot of paranoia boys, but your right, if you have a bike that wouldn't pass a Db test, are un insured and couldnt ride a posted limit on a tour with the local law officers this ride may not be for you.
