Why can't we have nice things?

The thread about the CCM 450 which is sold here made me think. If a small company like them think it is worth it to get their bike through transport Canada so it can be road legal in Canada why can't other companies?

For instance:
http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/range/off-road/crf450x-2014/overview.html

and:
http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/range/off-road/crf250x-2013/overview.html

The CCM is pretty expensive, but even assuming the costs incurred would be the same as for the above models which would sell at a lower price I would think Honda could a fair number of them, or at least enough of them to make it worthwhile.

marketing execs make the decisions about what to import

quite often they make poor decisions

I'll take mine in red! I notice the "extended road use may invalidate warranty" disclaimer. Probably couldn't slip that past legal here in North America.

You're likely right. KTM offers a straight 6 months on the EXC-F models as long as they're not used in competition. I'm sure Honda could do the same.

I'll take a red one as well.

The 250x and 450x are sold here but aren't road legal probably worried about someone riding one down the 401 and blowing it up. I have a road legal 250x and 110kmph is around 12000rpm. Not ideal for road usage.

Unfortunately I don't think we will get to see a Japanese high performance off road bike that is street legal here ever. This is due to the EPA requiring motorcycles to have a useful life of 5 years or 30,000km, at that point a 450 is probably on its 3rd piston, 2nd crank and the head rebuilt a couple times.

How ktm/husky pull it off with the exc range is anyone's guess, I'm just happy someone is able to.
