Hey guys,

So i bought a 2010 Ninja 250r without realizing that I may not be able to get insurance because of my driving record.

I'm 21 and recently just got my M2 but i have a suspension on my record from 2 years ago. I had my G2 at the time (now i have a full G) and my license was automatically suspended when I got a speeding ticket. I live in Scarborough but the address on my license is for my brothers place close to Ottawa because I go to school there and commute back and forth. I've been calling a few insurance companies trying to get a quote (Riders Plus, State Farm, TD) and most of them told me that since I have a suspension on my record they won't insure me. Do you guys know if it is possible for me to even get insurance for my bike and if so, which companies will provide me insurance? Also, what price range would I be looking at?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Contact one of the Insurance Companies and posters here directly.
You will likely/maybe end up in facility and pay and arm and both legs to ride.

Sell the bike and get an ebike or mountain bike with a small gas engine attached.
Unless you have the $$$ to burn.
Let us know the quotes you get.

As for playing that address game...they got your ticket and will investigate the hell out of you if something happens...and drop coverage and you could face insurance fraud charges...that will sit on your record for a very very long time.

good luck

Sorry I'm new, are the brokers under the sub-forum "Insurance Specialists" or do i find them somewhere else?

I'm willing to pay a decent amount because I really wanna ride this summer lol. And oh, I actually live there myself, but travel back and forth for school.

Thanks for the help btw

For the love of god don't do this. You'd be riding and uninsured, unplated, non-road legal vehicle without an approved helmet. It is hard to get more tickets at once.

They'd have to catch him. But if he's going to go down that route, I say get a dirt bike. Worst case scenario is you ride into a building, ride up the stairs to the highest floor, and attempt to jump between buildings. Bring a parachute in case; I'll bring a camera for the Michael Bay explosion when the bike hits the floor from 20 floors high.

Your license got suspended because you were speeding with a G2?

How ****ing fast were you driving? I dont think a minor speeding ticket constitutes a suspension.

Unless they dont want to insure you for a different reason you are not disclosing here.

Maybe they found out you dont really live in ottawa? Thats Fraud.

Why does everyone here believe they are some sort of CSI investigator. The most logical thought process would be buddy got a ticket didnt pay it in time and was suspended for unpaid fines. If you think insurance is going to put resources into finding out his "true address" without having to pay out anything...you sir are an idiot.

Most of the time you won't be bothered, if you catch a cop on a bad day you are looking at something like $6000 in fines.

.

Just read the criteria for G2 license suspension, unpaid fines arent listed

Now who's the idiot?

I was going over 30 the limit on the 401.. which is 4 points and automatic 30 days suspension if you have a novice license (G2). Stupid thing to do I know, but thats the reason I have a suspension on my record. I've only contacted a few companies, I was merely asking which companies would be willing to insure me, that's all.

name, DOB and DL number don't change when you change addresses,
you may be able to fool a broker into giving you a binder after lying on the application
when the company underwriters do the policy and find you have lied about convictions you'll get canceled

Long story: You're going to be in the facility market. Insurance is expensive enough for young inexperienced riders with perfectly clean records, but insurance for young inexperienced riders with a MAJOR blemish on your insurance history (and in the facility market accordingly) is going to be stratospheric.

The best thing to do is keep calling around until you find someone that might be willing to insure you, but that could be a challenge. A broker that has access to many underwriters is probably your best bet - Dalton Timmis for example.

You're not going to like the numbers you get -you're probably going to be in the $500+ month range if you can find a broker that will write a facility policy. Could be more. Only way to know for sure is to call around.

Short story: Might be best to back-burner the motorcycle dream for a few years until that suspension is no longer going to be held against you for the purpose of insurability.

huh.

Iv looked at several websites and nowhere does it state if you have 4 points you get a 30 day suspension...

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it. I'll definitely give Dalton Timmis a call and try my luck with other brokers. Hopefully it won't be too bad or I might have to end up selling the bike
