You're well protected on Amazon no matter if you're a Prime member or not - Amazon very much takes a "the buyer is king" approach.
I just had to return something on the weekend that was defective and it was super simple - I selected return on my order history, Amazon generated a preprinted (and prepaid!) return postage slip, I simply packaged it up, stuck the slip on the front, and took it to my local post office. I had the refund right away.
Compared to the nightmare of eBay (yeah, sure, I'd love to spend $40 to return that defective $5 item to China for a refund) it was a breeze.
eBay has ****** me off enough times that I'm pretty much done with it, and I never got into Ali...but I'm seeing from the comments here that's a good thing.
