Congrats. The new digs look like what I'd personally consider about the absolutely perfect home - I've always been partial to the "lodge" style windows/look.

And the being on a lake part, too.

I've always wanted to learn timber framing

Congrats on the retirement and the "Smart" move to Nova Scotia. I'm just a few years away from retirement and moving back to NS is high on my list of things to consider. Even though I don't live in Brampton (Ottawa) I checked my insurance and it will drop from an already stupid low rate of $730 to under $500. Add to that the quality of life and..... Only thing to remember, make sure your tires are good in the rain. You'll get a lot of that in the Maritimes.
